DHL Delivery from Wested ?
Does Wested use DHL as often as they use UPS?
Do I need to have a check ready to pay a customs fee?
Do I need to be home at time of delivery?
Never had anything delivered by DHL, so not sure?

Re: DHL Delivery from Wested ?
Nope, no check necessary. Yes, you need to be home. If you're not, they'll leave a note with an option to sign and tell them it's alright to leave it the next time they attempt delivery.

It may depend on your area. A few times my orders from Wested ended up with the final leg of the journey through my local post office. That was more the practice in the past, I think the last 2 came all the way through DHL.
You may be able to catch it in-transit or ask Peter to waive the sign for pick up option.

Re: DHL Delivery from Wested ?
Looking into the tracking, it's already left the Wested site and is coming by way of DHL; just about a month ago they sent me one by was of UPS.
That needed a check and for me to be home. I signed up for the alerts in hope of getting the package the day it's scheduled to arrive.

Re: DHL Delivery from Wested ?
The only times I've had to give a check upon receipt was when UPS delivered. I got a Wested jacket last week delivered by DHL and there was no fee. The delivery guy told me if I hadn't been home he would've left a notice with a place to sign and to for next attempt delivery.

Same here. Never paid customs when a Wested order came via DHL. Only with UPS.
But it's been all UPS for me for a few years now.

Re: DHL Delivery from Wested ?
Well apparently I was wrong. My jacket was delivered a month ago and I just got a DHL bill in the mail for $23.89. Personally I think it's absolutely ridiculous. I mean, can't Wested have shipping costs included in the final total?

Re: DHL Delivery from Wested ?
The bill is not part of the shipping. It's import duty plus brokerage fee. Not every one gets charged, it is a bit of a lucky draw as to if the package is targeted.
$20 something dollars is cheap, I got charged £34/$56 for a similarly priced jacket from the US from ANOVOS, the UK agent was Royal Mail Parcelforce and RM sent me a bill that had to be paid before they would release it to me.
They used to go through the motions of pretending that the customs check was to screen for illegal items, but they don't even attempt to go through that anymore and it's obvious that it is just a money gathering exercise.
Personally, I am far happier getting stung for the customs/duty fees one every four or five parcels than paying it every time up front.

Re: DHL Delivery from Wested ?
It's NOT Wested.
It is United States Customs.
Plenty of threads out there talking about the inconsistency of when the tax is applied.

Ok ok sorry. Just found it odd that out of everything I buy from vendors overseas, Wested is the only one I get fees with. (sorry, NOT Wested )Indiana Jeff wrote:It's NOT Wested.

I got my very first jacket a few weeks back..i had to pay UPS like 24$..I was not happy. BUT what do you do? AND I cant say im totally happy with the jacket. Its too short to me..should be 2" longer in my opinion.Especially if they are advertising it as LC/CS..CS is not short at all.. The chest measurement is my fault. I should have ordered like a 52"or 54" for the big open feel like I wanted..SO after said and done Im out nearly 400$ for something im not quite as happy with as I hoped I would be.knibs7 wrote:Well apparently I was wrong. one thing we could do is lobby for USPS.

choice of carrier. There is a choice, once it leaves the UK.

Is this import fee only from the UK? I have ordered stuff from overseas before and have never had to pay anything like this.

I've been fortunate not to get hit by overseas custom fees, but they can strike at any time, from anywhere. I do think, though, that how the customs forms are filled out have a lot to do with your chances. And don't pay customs fees to a vendor.

Re: DHL Delivery from Wested ?
Chewie brings up a good point. Depending on how the customs form is completed will impact whether a fee/tax is applied. Many overseas packages I've received have been marked 'gift' on the customs form. I think the tax is waved in that case. At least, I've never had to pay tax on those items.
Wested likely completes the form correctly that the jacket is a piece of retail merchandise. I can't blame them, they could get in trouble sending all their jackets as 'gifts'. There may be tax implications for them in the UK too if they have too many jackets going out the door as 'gifts' that were paid for by overseas customers.
It is what it is. Countries have these import taxes in place in part to encourage keeping your retail dollars in your home country.

Aha. Got it. OK, will report what happens when my cloth jacket arrives...I'm getting excited but it should still be a couple of weeks at least...
Re: DHL Delivery from Wested ?
I would recommend emailing them next time and asking for EXACT measurements for their off the rack jackets before purchasing. If they dont suit you, then get measured and go for a custom. It will be exactly what you want, and will fit great.youngjedi71 wrote:I got my very first jacket a few weeks back..i had to pay UPS like 24$..I was not happy. BUT what do you do? Re: DHL Delivery from Wested ?
well..the chest part like I said was my fault. I didnt get a large enough size like I wanted. BUT the thing is its supposed to be a lc/cs jacket. CS is a longer jacket and bigger..THIS really should have been made as such..but it is what it is..there wont be a next time. Im not a rich man..Im not really a crazed collector. I just like the clothes..BUT if someone is looking for a size 50 off the rack lc/cs I have one..only wore it long enough to take a few pics of myself in my house..ChrisMD wrote:I would recommend emailing them next time and asking for EXACT measurements for their off the rack jackets before purchasing. I have a similar problem. I wear XXL tshirt and I am rounder than I am tall. "Horizontally Gifted" if you will.
I also have very large shoulders and arms from my southern Sasquatch genes. So while all my jackets are XXL in non Indy land, I STILL have trouble with a XXXL in some Indy jackets because of my shoulders. All jackets seem too short. So individual body type has a huge amount to do with it. I still recommend perhaps sending it back and getting your measurements done professionally somewhere and having Wested do a custom, and account for the extra length you want. The price difference isn't really that bad and you'll be happy happy happy. That is what I plan to do eventually. Good luck!

Re: DHL Delivery from Wested ?
I contacted Wested just a couple days after I got the jacket..they said it would probably cost a bit to send it back and I would be better of trying to sell it..Not impressed with that reply I got..They could have helped cover the postage,as I would have just bought a custom one.ChrisMD wrote:youngjedi71 wrote:well..the chest part like I said was my fault. Re: DHL Delivery from Wested ?
Wow. Sorry to hear that. I can't say I disagree with you for not being happy with their reply. Seems like if they really wanted your business they would try to accommodate you, especially if you were going to purchase another jacket from them. Then again, I don't know what it costs them to take a jacket back and put it on the clearance rack. I'm sure they have their reasons. I would suggest flat out asking them if they wouldn't mind paying for postage since you are going to buy a custom from them... It's worth a shot

I just received an international shipment, NOT from Wested, and the packing slip was marked:
"Free Samples
Not for Retail Sale
Value USD 5"
I paid well more than $5 and it was a retail sale to me.
So, again, depends on how the vendor completes the paperwork as to whether it will be assessed import taxes.

Re: DHL Delivery from Wested ?
My online receipt said it was a cotton jacket, so I don't know about Wested, probably playing it straight up. The DHL ticket says it will be delivered tomorrow!! I can't wait!!
Re: DHL Delivery from Wested ?
I just got a bill from DHL on the Wested jacket I ordered about a month ago.
So the bill came about 3 weeks after the jacket was delivered. I have no idea where to make the payment. There was no return envelope so I thought that was odd.

Just file it back and see if you hear from them again.
If they're dumb enough to send a bill with no return mailing address, that's not your fault if they don't get paid.

ok let me get this straight. I will not actually have to pay the fee when the guy delivers it but will get a bill in the mail later?

The answer is maybe, maybe not, and you might get a bill at all. There's no real rhyme or reason TO it.

There is a 'Make Payment to: DHL Express-USA in Chicago. It looks like I might have to write them a check and use my own envelope?
Why wouldn't there be other payment information included as how to pay online?
