Teaser: Project RAIDERS II
Just a teaser of our next project.
The TEMPLE OF DOOM jacket.
Prototype made of pre-distressed very-VERY THIN cowhide (light and pliable as lambskin)
Correct side-vents and collar stand, YKK nº 10 zipper, pocket dimensions, wide yoke, etc.
So, what do you think?
More info soon.-
PS: an important thing is, there's no need to make this jacket "ill fitted" to be screen-accurate. This jacket you see fits me very comfortable, on my true size.

Wonderful news. I've always have a love to ToD jacket. That hide actually looks rather perfect. Looking forward to seeing more.

WOW! INFREAKINGCREDIBLE!
Re: Teaser: Project RAIDERS II
Exceptional !! Keep the sleeves trim and long enough for lots of wrinkling.
Really, an exceptional job. Is that the same light weight cowhide ... Is it all done with sanding or did you use other techniques?
Can I get a Raiders made outa that pre-distressed hide?

Re: Teaser: Project RAIDERS II
Thanks for your kindness! This is what push us to improve the accuracy.
This is how this leather looks as new.
Soon I'm going to distress this jacket screen-accurate. I think we can pull something very nice out of it.
Because we are going to offer it completely custom on measurements and screen-accurate distressed (upon request) NO EXTRA CHARGE.
This is as thin as that one, but with a different finish (due to be pre-distressed on tannery)
Yes, of course you can have a RAIDERS jacket made with this leather, and I think it would be amazing!
Kind regards!!!

We try our best to have the jacket ready within the 45 days from payment.

Curious, Diego. Ford said he didn't like to wear the ToD, Raiders II if you prefer. How does the ToD pattern differ in terms of the fit than the Raiders jacket, aesthetics aside?

Re: Teaser: Project RAIDERS II
I don't know about Ford complain on the jacket.Texan Scott wrote:Curious, Diego. Ford said he didn't like to wear the ToD, Raiders II if you prefer. How does the ToD pattern differ in terms of the fit than the Raiders jacket, aesthetics aside?
If the character doesn't wear the jacket on specific scenes, must be due to the script, I think
Now, about the pattern differences between RAIDERS and ToD jackets...
Well, here I'm going to say something I've never read on any forum, anywhere.
I had to work directly on pattern making, replicating as accurate as possible both jackets... (drum roll.....................................)
Both jackets are almost identical.
Let me explain:
* I can certainly imagine that the workshop that provided the ToD jackets had in hand original RAIDERS jacket/s.
* Because, many features are identical.
* BUT, I PRESSUME the workshop of the ToD jackets had this instructions from the production (maybe from the costume designer): "What we need is to replicate this jacket (RAIDERS), but change this list of specific features (pocket dimensions, collar dimensions, back lenght), so it looks a bit different"
* The buckles, the bottom side vents, the non-sewed bottom of the jacket, are IMO all just ussual construction details of that leather workshop. They just have done it that way before.
Ok, now everyone can jump at my jugular for the blasphemy I've just said! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Teaser: Project RAIDERS II
The thing that I liked most about the ToD, the big standout was the distressed leather.

I've just commented my deductions by the personal experience making the patterns.
However, I can see much info of that text in the main site are stated as "no documented, non-corroborated", so, anything goes...

Re: Teaser: Project RAIDERS II
Well, almost all our information was 'word of mouth' from the participants. The information by Noel Howard was told to several of us, including me, and the work of Cooper was told many times by David Hack and Anthony Powel to several folks, but as you say, it's all 'undocumented', with the exception of the Cooper connection as USW STILL holds the licensing agreement with LFL (now Disney) to produce the jackets.
During the making of Crystal Skull, USW was the ONLY vendor who did not receive a 'cease and desist' from LFL in their claim to Indiana Jones jacket sales. That IS a matter of record.
I just wanted to point out that it HAS been posted for years as the two jackets being 'almost identical'. There's a reason, as written up in the link.
Your opinion is in good company.
Regards! Michaelson

Re: Teaser: Project RAIDERS II
Well, for me they're hugely different in the size of the yoke, which I'm very sensitive to. The other big difference is the bottom of the back pleats, as we've all seen... And the buckles. It has grown on me, but the low yoke is still not as functional in my mind.

Re: Teaser: Project RAIDERS II
Here's the quote. I knew I read it somewhere: "Powell had another problem once Ford arrived on set. The jackets were too big. During the time that had elapsed between Ford’s fitting by Cooper and the beginning of production, Ford had lost between 8 to 12 pounds. Additionally, the jackets were lined with a heavy nylon weave that was inappropriate to the shooting location and which Ford reportedly hated. Powell attempted a solution that while unique, didn’t quite work out the way he planned. Powell’s team created a lining from cotton that did fit Ford and sewed them into 3 of the marginally larger shells. While these appeared to fit better, the armholes were too tight for Ford and he refused to wear them. As a result, Ford can be seen wearing either a Cooper (loose fitting with uncomfortable nylon lining) or Vic Armstrong’s “Raiders” jacket (tight, trim fit)."
Having reread that, I'm a little surprised that they did not simply remove the lining altogether. Would have been a quick fix and still kept the fit. No one would have 'really' seen it anyway?

Re: Teaser: Project RAIDERS II
With all the production snafu's that were going on at the time, including Ford injuring his back riding the elephant, I doubt they even thought about that easy fix, Tex. It's usually the simple answers that escape you when you need them most.

That finish and drape reminds me of my Magnoli "washed lambskin", but slightly more substantial. If that's true, you've got a winner for the hide! And the fit looks great.

If that's the case, then you can count me in - right after I purchase a goatskin version. At this point I'm probably going to just order a new one from G&B - I haven't had any luck finding a used one in my size. If only Indiego could get his hands on some more goatskin...

Re: Teaser: Project RAIDERS II
Indiego, as far as hide choices, can you also make a jacket with this ToD pattern using a slightly thicker cowhide? Or is this thinner hide the only option? I'm a big fan of the pattern, just not sure if I want a really thin leather jacket...

Thanks again everyone for your kind words!
Your opinion it's very important to us!
So, we try to keep choices limited.
However, I'll check with the tannery if they can sell us a batch for just 1 or 2 jackets.
