A distressing question

I know that Wested makes a Cow hide distressed jacket (I have one) and I was wondering if any one was has ever asked if Peter has ever done or would he do a distressed Authentic Goat. I'm in the prosess of putting a list together of what my next Wested will be and I want something tuff and still be able to wear it when it's warmer / hot out. But after pouring through post after post about goat, it seems to be a good choice but a little shiney.

So has anyone ever asked this question if Peter would do this, I'm going to wait a while and check back for responses then I'm going to Email Peter or Gerry this question.

I know some will say distress it your self, but I just don't know, I'd be afraid of screwing it up.

Any and all help will be appreciated.

While I don't know for sure about goat, when I was planning my order for my last Wested, I emailed them and inquired as to whether or not they could make me a pre-distressed lambskin jacket. I loved the look, feel and drape of my first Wested in lambskin, but wanted something a bit more worn looking than the typically shiny finish new jackets have. The reply I got from Wested is as follows:

I do not have a predistressed lambskin but the new predistressed hide is
not only lamb weight but is a much darker brown than previous.

The pre-distressed look is not because of some process Peter carries out on the leather but denotes a particular type of hide which he uses to create the jackets. So unless Peter locates a hide that is of pre-distressed goatskin I would not hold your breath.

I emailed Wested/Peter/Gerry last night, usally take a day or two to respond. I'll post what they say when I get it.

I knew my chances were slim, but hey doesn't hurt to ask.
When I orriginally got my 1st Wested pre-distressed cow I thought I rember them mentioning something that they tumbled the jacket in a machane like a dryer w/some soft mineral to distress it.

I'd go for the Auth. Lamb but two things concern me.
1) not very durable, easy to tear, 240.00 jacket down the tubes possibly a week after getting it. I allways look at worst case .

2) not very water proof. Everyone keeps talking about lamb soaking up water like a sponge.

So if anyone has info on how strong and how can it treated to water proof (I haven't seen anything about pecards as a water replent, I might start to lean back to the Lamb.

OR can anyone who's recently got a Auth. Goat, how shiney is it.

K, IC, to address your issues one at a time:

Firstly, Lamb is less durable than goat or cow, but it's not a jacket made of tissue paper. You'd just have to look out for things like nails sticking out that would snag and really tear the jacket. Stop leaning against walls, etc... Also, with the current conversion rate it's a $312 jacket, so keep that in mind.

Pecard's Standard Dressing has beeswax in it, which adds an element of water resistance to the jacket. You can't go swimming in it, but you will be able to get caught in the rain without worrying about the jacket.

As to the Authentic Goat, I got one about a month and a half ago, and it is VERY shiny. From what I have heard, going over the jacket with acetone will remove the shininess with little if any detriment to the jacket. I love my goat, but the shininess is getting to me and I might go down this path soon enough....
