Wested Nubuck Leather

Post by DiCatania »

I am just wondering if anyone has a Wested Nubuck leather jacket? On Wested site in the clearance section there is a Hero jacket in Nubuck leather and I really like the color and texture. They offer a dark brown Nubuck (which is different then the regular Nubuck) as an option for there special order jackets so I was thinking about contacting them to see if they still offer it. I figure I would check with all of you first to get your opinions. Thanks in advance :TOH:

I was also considering one a while back and from my chats with Peter I gathered it was a little like suede and that it marks very easily.

Nubuck is a suede-like leather.
Nubuck is a type of leather with a soft, velvety surface and is some of the most expensive leather to purchase. Unlike the less expensive suede, this type of leather is far more durable and is excellent for use on items like furniture because it will last much longer than suede. It is subject to the same kind of easy staining that occurs with suede and often requires pre-treatment or stain resistant protection to extend its life.

[Emphasis mine.]

I would not want it for an Indy jacket. Or any jacket, really.

Just to quickly chime in here, I did own a rather neat looking jacket (in Nubuck) from "Territory Ahead," in the late 1990's -- it actually, in many ways, resembled the "Skyfall" jacket that I have from Wested now, however -- YES...beware of dirt and foreign objects of any kind because the leather is really easy to trash. While visiting with a friend in the fall of '99, he was bumped by a customer in the coffee shop we were in and splattered (well creamed) coffee over the right front panel of the jacket and well, as they say :- ...it did not survive this simple accident very well. So no, I would not ever consider such a hide again. Don't get me wrong. This was a really cool jacket and the hide looked great and had held up quite well up and to this point, but for the long haul, it wasn't made for the likes of me, because if my friend's coffee hadn't gotten to it, sooner or later I surely would have 'nuked' it myself! That's what don't get about nubuck being used for furniture and car upholstery. Obviously I'm not their target market when I think about how much 'stuff' has been spilled on our furniture at home and in the car.
