Bag straps for MKVII

Post by Justin »

About to finally snag a real deal bag at long last. I'm on the fence about straps, though. Between Make it Jones and WPG, I assume Make it Jones would get the most nods? I'm primarily going to use the bag as a camera bag for my SLR so I dont have to haul an obvious and cheesy looking camera bag around. Thoughts on which of these two fine options is best? Or a third place I'm not savvy to?

Definitely MakeItJones. Way more SA than WPG IMO.

I have a WPG repro bag and leather strap. I dont get tedious enough to compare straps. In my eyes the WPG and other mass produced ones are very SA. As far as quality, MIJ will definitely win as his are hand crafted. Eventually I'd like to upgrade but screen accuracy on the strap isn't on my to do list since i think it looks fine. Id rather save for another hat or jacket!

Don't know how the pricing matches up, but Magnoli offers straps as well.

+1 for MIJ.

Especially for the price, Todd's strap with his Raiders buckle is great if you're interested in that look.

The Magnoli strap, recommended above, is also a strong contender. All things being equal, Magnoli or MIJ? Both are a push on the price, and quality looks pretty darn amazing on both. I know the concensus is likely that you can't go wrong with either, but if you had to choose one, what would it be?

Make it Jones for me. I find magnoli prices to be a bit out of reality for everything else. I have a magnoli suit i got in the bazaar which is fantastic but the original price leaves me scratching my head. And the MIJ is hand made, so the attention to detail is there.

Chris,

With Magnoli, you're definitely paying for the quality and exclusivity of the clothing, not to mention the 'custom made & tailored' factor.

For the items that aren't custom, production costs are high for most limited runs of anything, even if it's just the fabric (think the Todd's trousers run). You're also paying Magnoli's materials import costs and your final international shipping cost. Ouch!

If you compare Magnoli and MIJ prices, including shipping to the US, they are pretty much the same. Both straps are about $45 all in, which I find to be an absolutely outstanding deal given the quality of the leather, hand made, etc. In my mind, I'd rather spend $45 once for a strap that will last forever than mess around with having to re-buy again later.

Went with MIJ, SOC, no distressing. I can do that part on my own through a lot of use. Very excited to see what the new bag (WPG authentic) and strap end up looking like. I have no doubt I'll be very pleased with both.
