Most trusted leather alteration vendor in California?

Have three jackets I have been putting off getting tailored. Heading to the LA area this summer and thought I would see if anyone has a vendor they like and trust to do good alterations. None exist in the SF bay area as far as I can tell. Is Vanson still a good option? Any info is appreciated!

Have you tried "Johnson Leather Corporation" on Polk Street in San Francisco? They did some custom alterations on my U.S. Wings New Zealand antique lambskin Indy styled jacket and, my IMHO, the work came out great.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I too am in need of jacket alteration. I have lost 20lbs and now my jacket and shirt are now too big. Is it a difficult task to have a jacket resized? I know I can find a lot of tailors here who'd do the job, but since I have no idea how difficult the task is, I'm afraid I might get overcharged especially because it's leather.

My experience is the answer is yes. When it comes to altering jackets, the sleeve length and maybe the body length are the limits in terms of alterations.

I had a similar weigh loss and wanted to have a Magnoli shirt tailored, especially around the midsection. The tailor was able to take it in a bit, but there's only so much they can do before the shoulders, neck and arm holes no longer line up. It's worse with jackets because the leather would be less 'forgiving' than cotton.

If your jacket is that much too large, your best course of action is to sell it toward the purchase of a new one in your new size.

Or, just gain the weight back.

The sleeves are now too loose. It feels like my arms are now too thin. I may need to take a picture of me wearing it. I'll ask my GF to take a pic tomorrow.

If the diameter of the sleeves need to be reduced, I wouldn't try. There's no good way to make the sleeves more narrow and still connect correctly onto the body of the jacket.

I guess it'll look bigger on me once I reach my weight goal of 145lbs. I'm now at 150-153lbs... I guess I'll need to just sell the jacket and buy a SMALL from Todd's again. Waaahhhh!!!
