Return to the Pankot Palace !

Post by indymassilia »

Hi everyone,i bought last year 9 aged aniline lambskins leather skins(dark chestnut) ,thikness 0,9mm to a french tannery,it costed me 175€ -240$ for the skins..at first i wanted to make a crusade jacket but i found the beautiful Nowak crusade jacket,so i though to fit the skins on a Temple jacket..
In september,i asked Peter if he could be interested to fit a Temple jacket with my leather skins and he was agree,i shipped the skins and the money(105£_129€)..then 4 weeks later the jacket arrived !
My specs are:
-size 46.
-back length 25.50.
-sleeves length 25.50.
-lining,all brown cotton, the same who fits the Hero jacket.
Special request:
-Zip,YKK N°8 Nickel heavy gauge, stopped 1 inche before the bottom of the stormflap.
-the same largest collar who fit the Raiders "standard" jacket.
-Old Logo "leather concessionaires" like the Hero jacket.

The skins before :

The jacket finished:

Lining,Zip and inside pocket:

You can see the leather detail, with some grain on the skins:

The jacket fits perfectly and good news Peter continues to produce the Temple jacket for fans, just have to send Peter or Gemma a request for this jacket ;) !

That looks so luxurious... Planning the let it age naturally, or are you going to distress it? Brilliant work!

Thanks everyone :notworthy: !
For the moment i don't try to distressed the leather,i make a little test with sandpaper Tamya 1000 on the bottom of the sleeves,it works well but the time will do a best job..
I had the chance that this tannery sold skins in small quantity, because another one sold only in huge quantity..

You were most fortunate to find this hide and the results of the finished product is an Wested Masterpiece! Please let it distress itself, as you suggest. That hide is too lovely to play with! Colour is smashing! Like is said before -- Wow! Most impressive! W>

That is a beautiful color on that leather!!!!!!!!!!!!

As stated before, it just looks rich!!

The color may not be "correct" compared to what you see on screen,
but who cares! That leather is just perfect for an Indy style jacket.

Plus the added fact that you sourced the skins yourself, and had a
jacket custom made for you from them, makes it even more special.

And do not distress it with any other means than wearing it!! It would
be a shame to do that, and not let that beautiful leather bring out its own
natural highlights!

Each mark, scrape, scuff and scratch you get on it, by wearing it, will
always remind you of your adventures, or who you were with, or where
you were when it happened. Its like the jacket will be its own history
book, with memories that you will never forget every time you put it on!

Just fantastic!!

I think the color is very close, nearly perfect. It was the extreme distressing that made it appear lighter in some scenes, but when Indy meets Chattar Lal in the courtyard and numerous other scenes, you can see the original color of the hide is very dark.

I agree though, natural aging is the way to go. Really impressed!

Thanks everyone for the nice words!
Yes i know the color as not very Screen accurate,in fact when the tannery sended me pictures of the hides ,they looked much more darkest brown,so i was a little surprise when they arrived at home, but i preferred not return them and kept them to fit a Indy jacket...
This afternoon,i went to a leather shop in my town (Varjan company)specialized in all leather skins for jacket,shoes,armchair,etc..i drive the vendor crazy, because i want to look at all the shop, ahah!they have hundred and hundred of skins,it likes the hangar at the end of Raiders, and finally i found a very beautiful dark brown calfskin with a very deep brown ,0,8-0,9mm of thickness, very supple, perfect to make another Temple jacket!
I will take some pictures tomorrow and ship the skin(only one ,it's a very large skin ,largest than my bed,lol..)to Wested!
It's remind me the 80 movie "the never ending story",in french "l'histoire sans fin"..the never ending story of the perfect Temple jacket quest  !

Thanks Scot2525,Yes Duck very hard to stop the Indy jacket quest ](*,) ..here is the picture of the big calfskin nappa leather in dark brown hide i bough last week to a shop in my town, big enough to make one jacket :
Image
But in the same time i found another batch of 8 luxurious lambskin ,brown chocolate color,"plongé-aniline",very supple, thickness 0,9mm-1mm.
I couldn't resist and finally i ordered them, they are perfect and maybe the quest for the Temple jacket is close to the end..Peter will be busy in the next days  !

The first NH TOD was made of plonge lamb, so it's kinda fitting!

That should make an awesome jacket.

That is beautiful jacket! Now all you need to do is to wear it ALOT and make it weathered! Speaking of leather, I want to make a Grail Diary and I need to find the thinnest leather possible! Cowhide to be precise. So where did you get that leather?

Although I admire your industry, making a stitch bound journal is probably beyond the skills of most people. I would save yourself the expense and frustration of trying ](*,) by springing for one of Magnoli's Professor Diaries.

Is it accurate? because after looking at pics, it doesn't look like the grail diary(no offence Magnoli) do you like customize it?

Magnoli is probably the best there is in terms of accuracy. The journal he sells has exactly the same number and size of pages as the original and is bound in aged and distressed cowhide. I doubt there is a better one out there.

You do, of course, have to create the pages.

Ok, that said, we need to swing back to the jacket discussion. =;

Um, is the book case accurate? I don't recall there being little decoration notches on the edge. Then again, it may be me.

Batch of brown chocolate "plongé-aniline" lambskins shipped yesterday to Wested, very impatient to see the result,i order the same measurements and special request and add some gussets(the same as the "Hero" jacket)to avoid the "flying squirrel" problem..hard to tell if Ford had gussets on his jacket but it will be more confortable when arms are stand up ;) ..

Isn't that the Raiders costume though?

Any pics of gussets on the ToD jackets? The ones not Re-used from Raiders.

True, but word from the production group was they used the same patterns for the TofD stunt jackets for ease of movement, so one must assume the gusset was there as well.

Whatever the case may be, I honestly believe all my jackets that have the gussets are a lot more comfortable and easier to move around in with them vs without. That was a good call to have them installed. :M:

Got the jacket just before Christmas,Wested made a very beautiful job again, just forget to fit the gussets, but no problem...my camera take the brown a little reddish but the original "plongé-aniline" leather color is a dark chocolate brown.
Measurements:
-size : 46.
-sleeves length : 25.50
-back length : 26.
-lining : all brown cotton.
Special Request:
-zip : YKK 8 heavy nickel gauge just stopped before 1 inche from the bottom of the jacket.
-same largest collar as the "Wested standard Raiders" jacket.
-"leather concessionaires" tag to have a vintage look.

Just to make a little rectification about the "missing" gussets on the Temple jacket above,i asked today Gemma about it and have a answer from Peter..The gussets are well fitting the sleeves,i just didn't saw them because there was no stitching (and i 'm looking for "Hero style " gussets)..the gussets were directly imbodied into the sleeve length seams!
The result is perfect,my apologize to Wested and congratulations again for your superb work :notworthy: !
