Todds 2012 version Indy jacket vs US wings goatsin
Hello, I have a Todd's costumes 2012 version in lamb skin that is very nice with the exception of it being a little short. I have a rather pronounced belly and when I raise my arms a little when wearing the jacket, my stomach becomes visible below the bottom of the jacket. Other than that, it's a nice jacket. I have stumbled upon a US Wings goatskin for a reasonable price that promises to be about 1.5 inches longer than the Todds. Is the US Wings jacket potentially a good move, or should I pull in my gut and keep my Todds?

USW jackets are general cut on the roomy/relaxed fit side but it sounds as though your quandary is more of a jacket length issue. Would a size Long serve you better?

Texan Scott, thanks for the input, yes a long would probably serve me best in my circumstance.

If they are out of them, then you might consider custom made, and that road would lead to Wested, Magnoli or BK...?

That would probably be my best bet. I'm trying to decide if the US Wings I've stumbled upon might be a happy medium, it's at such a good price point.

Re: Todds 2012 version Indy jacket vs US wings goatsin
Probably not enough difference in the length to make it worth the effort. I just need to lose some weight and do some crunches. LOL!
Re: Todds 2012 version Indy jacket vs US wings goatsin
Well, sit-ups are definitely cheaper, but not as much fun! I've always found the Wings jackets substantially longer than Todd's. Wings are also a good bit heavier and goatskin is great for messy weather as it's the most weather resistant hide out there. Todd's are more screen accurate if that's critical to you, but a goatskin Wings will serve you for years.
Just depends on your priorities

Thanks Tibor. At $150.00 for the goatskin in great condition is a little too temping. I think I'm gonna go for it. I can always re-sell it if I don't like it.

Well, I decided to take a chance on the US wings. Who knows, maybe I'll keep them both. I bought the US Wings goat skin on that online auction that I won't mention. With shipping, $161.00. Hope I did alright. New ones are on sale right now for $250.00, so I don't feel too bad. My gear list grows. Akubra Fed IV, Todd's jacket, US wings jacket, Mark VII bag. SOMEBODY HELP ME!!! LOL!

You mean ebay?
You can mention auction sites. You just can't post links to live auctions that aren't your own.
Anyway, you'll be VERY pleased with the goatskin, I'm sure. As has already been stated, they're built like tanks and you should be able to layer underneath them when things get cold in winter. Most of us do.
Post photos when you get it!

I will post pic's after it arrives. I'll put on my other gear for the pic's as well. If it becomes my go to jacket, I'll put my Todd's up for grabs. Might keep'em both, but doubt it. I thank those of you who responded to my questions very much. Live long and prosper! Oops! Wrong scenario. Luke, I am your father! There, that's better. LOL!!!

Just to stick my head in the door.....if everything fits and you're a happy camper, one suggestion.....put the Todd's back in the closet as a backup.
Having two jackets is NOT a bad thing. Trust me.

Michaelson, you have a valid point. That thought has entered my mind. I'll wait and see how things go, but there's a good likely hood that I will hold onto it. It's a great jacket. It's me that's not built quite right, but it's marginal as to it's fit. I have actually tightened my mid section a little recently and the issue is not as pronounced as it was. Maybe I pulled the trigger a little too quickly buying another jacket, but the temptation was too strong. It should be here in a couple of days. Anticipation is half the fun. Thanks again for you help. It's much appreciated.

I think you'll be happy to have 2 jackets. They each fit a different season with Todd's a good jacket for Hawaii and Tunisia and Wings good for Nepal and the coming chill (not that it's insulated but it is heavier)
You may find 2 isn't quite enough someday

Well I received my jacket yesterday. It's really nice. Sadly, it's a tad tight even when at its loosest adjustment. It's wearable but a little snug. It is a 2x but fits more like a 1x. My Todds is a far better fit. Great jacket though. Not sure if I'm gonna keep it or not. Oh well, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I have a Wings Steerhide Legend in 2X and 3X. They fit like a size smaller. I love them. I too have a belly. I love these jackets. I can layer under the 3x a tad. TOUGH jackets.

I have a us wings the first one I got I thought it was too short so I got the xl tall the length was a lot better, I'm not a tall person. They made the exchange very easy if you think you need to get a different size

Wasn't there some talk a while back about Todd's producing their jacket in goatskin? Did anything ever come of that idea?

It's entirely possible, this is the first I've heard of it though. That would be great.ron521 wrote:Wasn't there some talk a while back about Todd's producing their jacket in goatskin? Did anything ever come of that idea?
