Just got my steel toe alden lookalikes-update w/pic
Actually I got them Monday, and am still in the process of breaking them in. Imagine a pair of Aldens the color of an authentic lamb jacket - I must admit I was very happy with the color. They're still a little stiff, but should loosen up with wear and of course they are getting naturally distressed being used on the job...

If you want a shoe with the basic look and a color that's closer to the early scenes of Raiders in the temple, then they are a good buy - however, it does not have the speed laces and it does have "EH" for electrical hazard stamped on the ankle. The JCrew Decker is closer to the Alden in everything except color. These shoes are relatively comfortable once broken in, but they did required a good week to break in - and on my job I walk an average of 3 miles a night.

The Deckers are gone in all sizes but very small (7 I think) and have been for some weeks. As far as I know they have no plans in bringing back the boot. Sorry (I didn't get to order a pair either). I ended up with the "Rugged." Not as nice or screen accurate but a tough boot with a tread sole that gives great traction, something important to those of us in the icy depths of Ithaca

Finally got a digital camera, so here's a pic of my Carolina Alden lookalikes naturally distressed after 3 weeks of work...

I'm a righty - the tongue leaning to the left was not intentional. I have tried a couple different insoles, but right now I have the ones that came with the shoes in them. As to how cool I feel - well, temperature wise they seem fine. As for looking cool - it's the same as with most Indy gear - it's a classic style that you can wear just about anywhere, anytime and at the same time feel a little like our favorite action hero...
