Replacement shoe laces for Aldens

Post by Michaelson »

We received an email from this company offering replacement laces for ALden boots.

We have absolutely no knowledge or experience with their wares, and therefore can't say anything one way or the other about them, but here's the link to their website for your information. Proceed at your own risk.

Like I said, no one here has had any dealings with them, or have we examined any of their laces, so take this for what it is....information.

Speaking of laces, I just received my first pair of Alden boots and thought the laces were somewhat flimsy looking. They are flat and easily get twisted. I have had many boots and have always like the heavier round laces. What are members thoughts on this?

I have had many a pair of Alden laces over the years. I have also found them to be a little lax on the durability side. Having said that I have always loved the flat style of the Alden laces. In the last few years I have switched to a round style boot lace commonly found in stores. I have to say I am intrigued by this lace company and would be interested in being a Ginny-pig as it were. $17.99 is a bit stiff for boot laces however I understand this is a specialty item. This might be worth a try. If I decide to try them out I shall post a review here.

I have done round laces, but they always seem to slip a bit. Perhaps just the one's that I have been able to locate. Regarding this new offering, I just might do like you, Bogie, and give them a shot in the future, as my brown laces do twist a bit and aren't quite perfect. My black ones for my special order 405's don't seem to have this issue. W>

I came across a Red Wings ( not the hockey team! ) store on my way home from work last year and stopped by as I needed some replacements for the flat laces on my trusty pair of Skechers close-enoughs - they gave me 2 sets of the sturdier, round-style laces for free! That's what I call customer service. :D

Absolutely! :TOH:

Like I said, this was just posted for information purposes only and not a recommendation.

Since this IS a gear information site, that's what we do. ;)

I'm on the look-out for tan colored flat laces for my Aldens. Just like the look of them.

I've had my 495s for 10 years and have had to replace the laces twice. Alden has been very quick to respond both times, but this last time they suggested that I examine the boots and see if something needs to be filed down to prevent the lace damage. They also sent me a couple of pairs which I think they hope will tide me over for another decade.

The laces they sent me a few years ago matched the originals, which I also thought were pretty flimsy. The pairs they sent me this time feel much more durable and may be waxed. They also stay tied better.

I use the flat waxed laces off my Red Wing boots for my Indy boots. Replaced the flat waxed ones on my Red Wings with round waxed laces.......

These are the laces I got for my Alden 403s. They are perfect. Got them in the Oatmeal/Beige color. Makes for a wonderful contrast, and works nicely with the toe stitching. Shipping took about a month, as they were from overseas.
