Shrunkin Lambskin or Crispe Lambskin

Post by DiCatania »

Alright, so I want to order a Hero jacket from Wested but I don't know the difference between shrunkin lambskin or crispe lambskin. I emailed Gemma but haven't received a reply. Is one stronger than the other? There is definitely a price difference. Is one less likely to tear compared to the other? I want the stronger of the two and I don't want a goat skin jacket. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

I own the Crispe version. It is extremely durable and has a substantial weight to it as well. I believe it is made from mature sheepskin. :-k The only problem is that the texture is a bit over the top.

For the Hero I'm not sure Shrunken Lamb is still beiing offered. Only Cripse was the last choice I saw....

Personally, I prefer SL as opposed to Crispe. You can find a number of examples in the Hero thread, especially the last couple of pages, and WM's jacket in the Bazaar. To me, SL better replicates the look, and is veg. tanned. This leather is about as close to the movie jacket as Wested has ever offered, in terms of type, texture and tanning method of the leather. Crispe's leather looks honeycombed, if that makes any sense. Another reference is the TN thread. The leather that TN called "SL" is what Wested calls 'Crsipe'. It was my understanding, if my reference was correct, is that "Crispe" is the type of leather that is found on the underbelly of the animal. When I look at Raiders, I basically see smooth leather with character & grain, except for the upper right panel of the main Hero jacket, which has horizontal striations. Peter has sometimes commented on the type of leather he used, and if you read the last 2-3 pages of the Hero thread, I think you may be able to find a few more answers. If you go SL, you might want to request darkest SL possible.

I can't figure out what is going on with Wested's Hero offerings right now. The prices have changed, and the leather choices have changed. When you click on shrunken lamb, you are then presented with a drop down box in which shrunken lamb isn't even an option. Hopefully, Wested will correct this.

As to the shrunken lamb or crispe, I can't say that I like either leather at all, based on what I've seen posted here, although I've never seen them in person. My favorite Hero jacket is probably KT's in soft cowhide, an option that isn't even available on the Hero ordering page. The newest photos of the crispe lambskin on the Wested site look really good, but the product delivered in the past looks nothing like it. Same with shrunken lamb in my opinion. :-k
