Physically it's lighter in weight, but let's face it, NO leather is going to be comfortable when it gets warmer weather. Not even lambskin.

If you're looking for a reason to buy, consider tensile strength of the hide of the jacket under consideration, then physical weight. That's as good as it gets. ;)

I use to have a Wings in Goatskin but this was VERY long ago so I don`t kno wif it was the same exact type of leather you have but in my opinion if I can recall correctly, they actually weight about the same. But this new Steerhide on the current Legend seems more comfortable and along with the better lining, makes it easier to wear in the warming months. It has been in the eighties here and I have still been using it in the rotation. The Wings featherweight Lamb might be what you are looking for. But I`d get a Steerhide just to have the leather. ;)

No, this new steerhide is actually a bit lighter than the goatskin in physical weight.

I, too, own a light weight Wings 30th anniversery lambskin. It's definitely a comfortable jacket, but bear in mind, leather is a wind breaker, so any cooling effect you would hope to get as the temps go up will be disabled due to the fact you've sealed yourself up in leather.

If you don't have one of the 30th anniversery lambskins, I HIGHLY suggest you look into one of those. I've found it to be a VERY good jacket for general 3 season wear, and one of the softest lambskins out there.....tough too, which has surprised the stew out of me.

I recall Kelso mentioning that all Leather will treat you the same when it comes to warmth.....its more based on how the jacket is put together as to whether you will feel comfortable enough to wear it in warmer weather. If the jacket is soft, has openings and fit to allow for air circulation, and has a breathable lining, then it will be wearable in slightly warmer weather due more to those factors than if the leather is thick or not. I think that is why the New Legend Steerhide feels more "wearable" than some of the other jackets. As a matter of fact, I wore the regular Steerhide jacket I use to own in warm weather due to its comfortability and softness. I new it was a heavy leather but if didnt feel hot in warm weather due to the softness of the leather and the Legend construction which allows for air circulation. But, as Michealson states, the featherweight Lamb is about as comfy as they come, especially in Wings lineup.

I just received my steer hide from USW. Ground shipping less than 24 hours from the Internet order. Within minutest had a UPS tracing number and this morning a reminder that Cleveland is not far from Pittsburgh.

I found a large long a nearly ideal fit. The fit is close, with room for a light sweater underneath. It hangs about one inch below my belt, and fits shoulders, chest, and arm. I am 6' 1" with a ling upper body (about 6'4" arm span) I wear 42L suits tailored in at the waist. My shirts have have a 15.5" neck with a 36 " sleeve. My current weight and waist are 195 lbs and 36".

I am on the cusp of L and XL. USW recommended XL-long, but base don my experience with XL fitting me like a tent, I chanced the L-long.

The jacket weight about 4 lbs, and yes, sarge threw is a coupe extras, a polo shirt and a CD.

My first impression is favorable. The leather is soft and pliable, not so thin as to seem weak, but far from a heavy motorcycle

Correct. Different hide and jacket, but his 'for sale' jacket is a nice one just the same. :TOH:

So is this the jacket, or not? I thought I saw it correctly on the US Wings site and as I kept reading this thread I got the idea that the description below is not the one you guys are talking about?

Texas Steerhide
"Legend" Jacket, Imported

USW Indy-style Legend Jacket

STARTING AT $195! US Wings is proud to re-introduce our authentic Indy-style "Legend" Jacket, based on the specs of one of the original movie jackets from three decades ago. Following the specs of our 30 year old pattern to the letter, we painstakingly recreated this classic jacket in beautiful hand-aged Texas steerhide.

Features include two front cargo pockets with original-style pocket flaps, side-entry handwarmer pockets, pleated action back for freedom of movement (with correctly-sized small side gaps), small yoke on back panel, original-length side adjustment straps with rectangular sliders, an interior pocket, nylon lining, and a brass zipper. Also features a shorter overall length and a trimmer, more tailored fit in the body & sleeves.

The leather, graining, and hand-aged antiquing process makes these truly beautiful jackets to behold, but don't let their good looks fool you: these aren't mere "fashion" jackets -- they're tough & rugged enough to stand up to real-life adventures (should you ever find yourself dodging gigantic boulders, outrunning angry natives, or battling Nazis in a burning bar). And the medium-weight leather will make this the most comfortable leather jacket you'll ever wear!

So if you've always wanted an Indy-style jacket that is faithful to the original movie jacket, look no further! Our "Legend" jacket is it!

Yes, indeed...that's it. I have one, too, and it's one of the nicest Wings jackets I've had...the sizing is a bit on the large size, though...I got a medium but easily could wear a small for that true Raiders fit. As it fits me now, it fits more like a LC jacket.

But, it is a seriously nice jacket!
