Field Strip a 9mm Hi Power

Post by Pyroxene »

Almost every gun magazine field strips a new gun when they review it. I thought I would give it a try and field strip the 9mm Hi Power (HP). (Note: This is for discussion purposes only. This is not meant as a substitute for reading the owner's manual. If none exists, consult a competent gunsmith.)

SAFETY FIRST! The first thing you always do when you pick up any gun is check it to see if it is loaded. Field striping is no different.

Remove the magazine by pressing the magazine release button just behind the trigger.

Next pull the slide back and check the gun to verify that there are no rounds in the chamber.

Next, lock the slide back into the second notch. This will keep the slide in the proper position for the next step.

Remove the pin from the gun by pressing on it from the opposite side.

Next, unlock the slide and remove it from the frame by sliding it forward.

Now, slightly compress the spring and remove it from the slide.

Now, you can remove the barrel.

And now you have your 9mm Hi Power ready for cleaning.
