Looking for a long armed jacket.

Post by creativeguy »

I'm going to go through a lot of trouble to get a great Indiana Jones Jacket I'm sure. I'm 6'3" and my arm length is about 97cm or 38 or 39 inches. Those measurements are from the back of my neck, across the shoulder and down the arm to about my thumb. From just my shoulder seam straight down to the thumb area (where I think Indy's goes) its 29 inches. I have a feeling its going to take a lot of work tracking down a jacket that will fit me properly. Will probably need to get one custom made.

I'd say you're right. You can add sleeve length by going up sizes in OTR jackets, but there's just so much you can do when you have arms THAT long. In order to get on with correct sleeve length, the body of the jacket would be the size of a large tent.

I'd definite suggest looking at the custom route. In the long run, you may be a LOT happier anyway as you'll have a jacket made to YOUR specifications rather than trying to 'made-do'.

He used to, but I'm not sure if he still does now or not. :-k

The last time he did it was September 2010 and here's what he said when it was announced in the vendors section:
Okay, we're going to give it a go... again. It seems lately there is a lot more interest in custom jackets with different hides. A few years ago there just wasn't much interest, so we took them off the menu.

We're keeping the price at $499 as long as customizing is limited to size and sleeve length. More difficult customizing ("I'm six foot six and have a 38" chest but a 48" waist" kind of thing) will be extra charged by the hour. It may take an extra hour or eight depending on how extensive the deviation from our standard pattern is.

Leather choices for now are our custom lamb, washed lamb, deerskin-tanned cowhide, and bison (very grainy and very soft!)
We will have swatch photos up soon. Also, we'll have some samples at the QM Ft.MacArthur day for your inspection. Colors are also an option.

Todd
Drop him a line and ask if this is still an option. He's 'Puppetboy' here.

Regards! M

If Todds doesn't do them, I suggest Magnoli... if you can afford it. I own two, both very different, both excellent. I can be a difficult fit for an Indy jacket, and Magnoli really came through.

I'm not sure if I need a entirely custom jacket really. Most long sleeve jackets fit me fine everywhere but the arm length. Hopefully just getting the sleeves lengthened isn't too hard or too costly. Maybe I should just buy a premade jacket and have the sleeves adjusted?

I'd by pass Magnoli and spend the small fraction extra on a BK - without hesitation. The quality of the BK leather is unsurpassed and better value for money. And screen accurate. You can easily amend arm length etc with BK too.

Dude I feel your pain; I'm the same size. Add to that if you want extra length for shrinkage and wrinkling, you have to go custom (with one exception). Trust me- I've spent/wasted hundreds and hundreds of dollars over the last twenty years on jackets.

US Wings Large Long in a cowhide has been the only 'off the shelf' jacket I have found to work.

If I had it to do over, I would go straight to a Magnoli custom made and be done with it.
