Length of Whip Ford Used in ROTLA Streets of Cairo

I know I've asked this question before but since the loss of the big chunk of posts my post was lost. How long was Indy's whip used in the streets of Cairo scene where Marion is in the cart and Indy is fending off the Arab attackers ?? I think someone had said it was 8ft but I was just reading RayROnline's post of his new J.M. Whips 8ft Raiders and, although a very nice whip, it seems shorter than what what was used on screen. You guys tell me. Peanut... is it a pea or a nut..... discuss !!!

Typically when worn on the waist, the whip was a 10-footer. For the whipping scenes in Cairo, the actual in-use whip was 8'.

Ditto. When cracked, the whips used on the movies were typically 8ft, but when on his belt they were typically a 10 footer. For instance you see often a screen shot of when Indy is grabbing his whip in the street of Cairo scene, that one appears to be 10 foot.

If you're wanting a whip just for display, a 10'footer would be perfect but if you're wanting to learn to crack I'd recommend an 8 footer. It's much easier to control than a 10'.

Also once the whip is broken in it will coil tighter and appear longer.

Regarding the illusion of an 8 foot coiled whip seeming shorter than the one used in the SoC scene, keep in mind that with an 8 foot whip you've got 8 feet for the thong, 2 to 3 feet for the fall / cracker, and another 2 feet for Ford's arm. That's about a 12 to 13 foot radius around Ford that the whip is moving around in. It makes it seem pretty long.

Good thing it was the 8 foot when Marion was in the cart as she had to dive for cover in the background... If a 10 foot were used you'd have heard a scream.
