Another Sterling Beaver fedora.....

Post by Fedora »

I am repeating the Optimo buying binge that I had a couple of years ago. After comparing this hat to all of the hats that I own, vintage ones included, and after wearing it nonstop for the past week on numerous trips and even getting it wet twice, I just had to have another one. It is the best looking Indy fedora that I own, and all of my hats have my block shape. Some felt just looks better coming off my block and this is one of them. I have found some things out about the beaver through some hands on experience. Number one. The felt is hard to shrink. Number 2, the felt is hard to stretch. Number 3, while the felt is thin, it is very heavy which comes from the denseness. I don't think it would make a good summer hat as we have been discussing on another thread, but I would not want to sweat in a hat of this price range anyways. I will be listing some of my reblocked hats in the classified section later on when I get time to dig them out. No Akubras. Those will stay in my stable. Fedora

Yowza, I'm guessing this one is going to be full price! That's a lot of money for a hat

So, you're keeping the Optimo you have and ordering another?

   Boy, that is sure what it sounds like. No, I have another beaver hat in the works. I just meant that when I first got the Optimo, I turned around and ordered another one. Right away. I am getting better, this interval was longer. :D Fedora

Yeah, but you got to understand that I have been after a fedora grade pure beaver hat for years. The felt is what I thought it would be, and should be, so I could not pass it up. I did the same when I got my first Optimo. It's an obsession. Fedora

Are you gonna change anything on the new hat, so each one is a little different? Felt color, sweatband, lining, ribbon? Is this one going to be another finished body or a complete hat, ready to wear (I'm guessing just the body but I wanted to be sure.)

My plans are to get the body, do my own finishing, and this one will be the LC fedora. I have too many Raiders fedoras now. This will be new territory for me, going after the LC style, which is more of a traditional fedora with a little Indy flavor. I am diversifying. Should be great fun. Fedora

Brother, I feel the urge coming on. Oh lord, let this feeling pass. I'm happy with my Indy Brown, I'm happy with my Indy Brown......(Dakota Ellison pulls fedora down over his ears, cuts down giant gong and leaps screaming out the 4th story window of Club Obi Wan, only to return minutes later.)
I'm OK now. Whew!! I know it's great fun though.
