Indy's gear revelations and revisions...
Recently, certain details and changes in skins have helped members to obtain more accurate jacket reproductions, such as the offering by Kelso. Steele and Jones are now sourcing 'ribby Marino' sheepskin in an attempt to nail the perfect look for the jacket. Certain details as seen in the IMax theater are bringing other such details to light, such as the fact that the strap had no grooves. Can you think of any other details that come to mind? I was curious as to how the shirt looked, as screened in the theater? Does the NH/MBA color and fabric nail the screen shirt?

Re: Indy's gear revelations and revisions...
one thing I noticed about the pants is that they didn't seem as long as I first thought they were.....they actually seemed a little high-water in a couple of scenes...not much but enough for my eyes to register it. I was trying so hard to watch everything else that I forgot to ingest the shirt and pants in better detail. the fee times I was trying to focus on the shirt, my eyes kept going to the hat...it is THAT beautiful in Imax restoration! I swear!
And the boots REALLY seemed darker brown than the classic pumkin-but-distressed color that we know Aldens to be.

Actually, the 'pumpkin' colored Aldens didn't even come out until the mid 90's.Gorak wrote: And the boots REALLY seemed darker brown than the classic pumkin-but-distressed color that we know Aldens to be.

Here is one thing I noticed. This shot was taken in full sun and with a NH shirt. Full sun or flash tends to wash these kinds of colors out and give them more of a stone appearance:
Re: Indy's gear revelations and revisions...
well, I guess you just have to pick your scene right? so many different lighting effects hence to why we have SO many vendors offering those particular shirts in different colors to match that scene or the next.Texan Scott wrote:Does the NH/MBA color and fabric nail the screen shirt?

I remember at the 30th Anniversary Screening of Raiders that Lee Keppler mentioned a revelation he had was the China Clipper fedora in the restored film turned out to be a lot darker gray than he had thought, and that he might adjust the gray fedora he offers accordingly. Here's a great photo of him wearing his gray fedora next to Frank Marshall (photo courtesy of Tundrarider):
(More photos from the event can be found over here).
Although I agree with him that it's lighter than the Raiders gray fedora, I really like the look of it. IMHO, with a little re-creasing, it would also make a good CS train traveler fedora, too.
Best wishes,
Nebraska S.

There is something that has bothered me even before Raiders came out in IMAX, but I just never got around to asking... Is it just me or does Indy's whip look like it's made from cowhide when he is on the Flying Wing and the mechanic calls him down?

Re: Indy's gear revelations and revisions...
Kyle, according to the main Indygear bullwhip page, there was a ban on kangeroo being imported from 74-81. During that time David Morgan made his whips using kip. Because some of the whips used in Raiders were the stunt man's personal whips, some may have been made of kangeroo, but any of the new whips would have been made of kip I think. It would be great to know when the stunt man got his whip, and how long Mr. Morgan's supply of kangeroo skin lasted before he ran out. Hope that helps. If you already knew that some were made of kip and you are talking about actuall cowhide as opposed to the kip (which comes from cow), I appologize for the confusinon. Thanks!

Re: Indy's gear revelations and revisions...
The only thing I noticed about the gear... and this was just something I saw on a non-IMAX showing that is only clearer having seen that - the shirt buttons are somewhat darker than the shirt. It's not the light, it's not sweat stains, I checked carefully on the dvd's afterward. The light trick is clearly the spots where the buttons look light. I'm not saying they are LC dark, but if Noel used buttons that matched that shirt, somebody switched them before filming.
Re: Indy's gear revelations and revisions...
I agree! I personally allways thought that the buttons on the raiders shirt was a darker tan than the shirt color.
And here is what is said to be raiders pants and shirt. Look at the buttons.

Re: Indy's gear revelations and revisions...
What I've noticed with these type of exhibits is that frequently the displays are a mix of gear. With the above, you have what appears to be LC belt, pants and shirt with a ToD jacket? It never made sense to me that the buttons would be the same exact color as the shirt, but that is what has been reproduced for fans? I would also assume that Raiders screen gear would the most difficult to find, since apparently much of it was destroyed, etc., per the main page.

Re: Indy's gear revelations and revisions...
No one has mentioned this and so i am starting to feel as if it is only me, plus the fact that I have only seen it once in Imax but i did feel that the hat was just a little more tapered than i previously believed!
And i stared at it alot as it really shined thru in the film.

Re: Indy's gear revelations and revisions...
Yes, a few raiders hats had a slight taper. you can see it when Indy almost fell into the gap and hangs on that branch.
Re: Indy's gear revelations and revisions...
Is that a deleted scene? I don't remember Indy hanging on a branch...Holt wrote:Yes, a few raiders hats had a slight taper. you can see it when Indy almost fell into the gap and hangs on that branch.

Nope, Holt meant the plant, I always thought it was the root of something, that Indy grabs onto to keep from falling into the pit after he jumped across it.
Re: Indy's gear revelations and revisions...
Oh ok, ya that'd be a root
