"Taking In" or Alterations to Jackets

Post by Obi Sean Kenobi »

All,

I have been on the lookout for a Nowak KotCS Jacket.

One has recently come available for a decent price, BUT (and its a big 'but'), its a size 48!

I wear a 44L, but can comfortably go down to a 42, and in certain cuts, can wear a 46 (though almost always too baggy).

The Nowak jackets are a rare commodity these days, and Id love to have one.

Can I have the jacket altered to fit? Is this even a possibility?

Lastly, if this is possible, any recomendations on a tailor?

Regards,
Sean

I'd sit back and wait. They come up once in a while, and you'll only be satisfied with one that fits correctly right out of the gate. Be patient.

I concur, wait for one in your size. Proportions these jackets make or break them. Reducing a 48 down to a 44 might do some really weird things to pocket placements etc.

I agree with the above, you'll never get a 48 down to a 44. I checked with a local tailor about having a shirt tailored from an XL to a M and he said it couldn't be done. To make that big of a size change, in either a shirt or jacket, you'd basically building a new garment.
