Nowak Shrunken Lamb and Lexol

Post by ShanghaiJack »

Sooooo... I thought my recently acquired TN raiders in shrunken lamb was a little dry looking. I decided to give it a bit of Lexol, which I have used successfully on my US Wings Legend in striated lamb and my Wested goat. The TN soaked it up faster than I could buff it, and now I'd swear the jacket's heavier and feels greasy to the touch. Has anyone else with a TN in shrunken lamb experienced this? Will it dry out again and lose the greasy feeling? What do you guys use to condition your TN shrunken lamb jackets?

Hang it up in the sun. Lexol is water based, so that extra moisture will evaporate out quickly....then buff with a dry tee shirt. That should fix it.

Thanks M, :TOH: . The fact that it feels greasy to the the touch really worried me. It must have been dry as a bone cause it sure soaked that Lexol up quick. I will follow the doctor's prescription and report back.

:M:

Yeah, I've experienced the same thing when I first applied it to a Wested lambskin, extra weight, greasy feel and everything.

Once it dries completely, just give it a good buffing with a clean dry cotton tee shirt (I've found that to be the best), and all will be well again with the world. :TOH:

What would you recommend using on it then? I would guess that Letaps would be best, but since that is not readily available in the US is Lexol the next best thing? I'd sure like something that I could spray on, wipe off, and be done, without having to hang it in the sun and then buff it. Maybe I'll just do what Tony suggested, and wear the heck out of it and not worry about conditioning it. :-k I didn't get a chance to hang it out in the sun today as I was smoking a pork loin and didn't want the jacket to smell like barbecue. Jerky is ok, but barbecue might be pushing it.

Well, Pecards makes a product called 'Motorcycle Leather Lotion' that's a lot thinner, but essentially the same type product as Lexol.

Yep, Lexol is your best route if you can find a can somewhere....or leave well enough alone if you're in a hurry.

Thing is, I never treat a jacket more than once a year myself unless it gets caught in an absolute frog strangler of a rain storm and gets soaked clear through (which, by the way, has NEVER happened to date), so I wouldn't worry so much about this.

Just give it a good seasonal treatment (my practice is at the start of the jacket wearing season) and just wear the jacket.

It's worked for me. Since you're just north of me, should work for you too! :TOH:

Sounds good. Once a year will be easier on the pocketbook too

Easier on the jacket too. It doesn't become saturated with Lexol!!
