College tweeds & Marshall desk homage.

Post by jones the whip »

Hi there,

Firstly, please may I say for the record that this is in no way intended to represent a screen accurate portrait of the Marshall College classroom, it is simply an attempt to recreate the "look" but some effort has been made to acquire/construct a few pieces that may look familiar.

A number of items were chosen at random to provide a suitable backdrop for the main theme of this thread which is the tweed suit. A more thorough look at the desk props will be posted in props discussion shortly.

The location is the Royal Masonic Girls School, near London. In the same classroom the original scene was shot.

Image

This 3 piece suit was made to order by Bookster http://www.tweed-jacket.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; with full bespoke options. I've attempted to compliment the Indy suit as much as possible by requesting as many of the movie specs as was practicable, patch pockets, horn buttons etc.

Image

Image
The cloth is Donegal Tweed in brown fleck (Magee of Donegal).

Image

I made the decision not to ask Bookster to try and recreate the half back belt and plait detail because to undertake this faithfully would not only be difficult to translate to the tailors online but there was always the chance they might get it wrong, not to mention the added expense. Therefore, I simply opted for the plain back/no vents and it looks great.

What, am I in trouble? ;)
Image

If anyone would like further detailed information about ordering from Bookster, I would be more than happy to discuss the details of my own completed order via PM.

A huge thanks to Kt templar for all his help (and the use of his Cypriot Cruciform Idol) and to Indy Magnoli for his ultra screen accurate Marshall Tie.

Hope you like the pics.
Cheers,
JTW.

WEll, JTW, you certainally look the part of a college professor, tweed firmly established! These photos are another series that take me back in time, as Kram Starr's posters did. It seems we are having a 30th Anniversary renaissance, as of late. I commend you in your efforts to receate the classroom look of our favorite adventure hero! It was the best of times, it was the best of times... ;)

Oh...where did you find that old Bible? :-k

That suit would stand out from the crowd anywhere, but got to admit the 'setting' really amplifies the total pictorial comment! That is one beaufiful suit. You look stunning in it. Good show  ! W>

Dude, Awesome job! I've said this before, but it seems most appropriate here to say, "I'm really rather envious!" I've been hankering for a Marshall suit for a long time, and I haven't been able to get it together, and now I want it all the more! Plus, kudos for getting the prime location!

I doubt I'll ever get near that classroom, but lucky for me, when I do get my suit, I'll be able to head over to UOP in Stockton for some exterior shots just for fun. Only an hour from my house. :)

Well Done!

Many thanks folks,
I've been longing to do this stunt for years.
I'm lucky enough to live only an hour away from the school and have visited a number of times. The first time I walked into that room, eight years ago, I said to myself one day I'm going to try and recreate that famous scene.

Cheers,
JTW.

Outstanding ensemble!!! That's an excellent suit, and you wear it well. The tie, glasses, location, props--very good! If you don't mind, I'm going to post a link from the "Indy Suits" thread to your thread.

:TOH: Best wishes,

Fantastic suit! Is it possible for you to post a full length shot of the back of the suit.

I really like that suit \:D/

No problem at all, of course.
Many thanks.

Ironically, even though we took about sixty photos between us that afternoon (me & Kt templar)
niether of us thought to take one of the back of the suit, I suppose considering I did'nt opt for the SA back detail.

Cheers buddy,
JTW.

That is funny. No worries, it really is a fantastic suit. I'm really impressed.
Actually, I never liked the original back design, and always thought a plain back, possibly with double vents would look better on a custom suit, even though not SA.
(hope I don't get shot for saying that...sorry Indy)

Hey there,
I promise to start up a props thread relating to this photoshoot but I need some time to collate
all the pics (my camera had 59 frames on it when I got home and I'm sure Kt's would have had about the same number).
Cheers

That choice of tweed is fantastic, just the right blend of brown and grey. And the horn buttons really set it off. Too bad about the back design, but it was probably a good call as most modern tailors don't know how to do that type of back anymore. Thanks for sharing!

Kind regards,
Magnoli
