Most SA TOD and LC Jacket

Post by thePawn »

I'm interested in opinions regarding which vendors offer the best SA TOD and LC Jackets.

Thx.

That would be Leather Concessionaires circa 1980's. What I wouldn't give for a time-traveling DeLorean right now! :D

I have a 1990 Leather Concessionaires. But the leather is wrong for either. Wested offers the LC and TOD, wondering how screen accurate they are by today's standards.

Wested only do one really accurate jacket: the ToD based on an original Peter had a hold of for a bit.

I had an early Wested LC. Not right at all. These days Wested LC is an odd hybrid between a LC and a KotCS - not much like the film jacket; it has double shoulder seams and wrong, shallow pocket flaps. The extraordinarily large pocket flaps are an LC movie jacket hallmark. They almost come half way done the cargo pocket.

Magnoli's LC is closest - based on an actual paper tracing of the LC jacket held in the Smithsonian. Done by a member here. Do a search to get the whole story - I forget the details but the thread surfaces every 2 years or so.

the TNO ToD has been my personal favorite ToD so far...

but I've had the Wested NH screen used based version, and if you get the correct length Sleeve and Back lengths it comes out great... I would even go as far to say these two are pretty even as far as the SA details when both are done in the right measurements.

RSun - I was talking ToD in this case... although I have seen some nice LCs come out of TNO as well, I have yet to fondle one in hand long enough to evaluate it against what I saw in the screen jacket.

Yeah I always feel so lazy abbreviating... and it can get confusing. Was that a TNO LC or an LC LC or a Todd ToD we were just talking about? ](*,)

Fondle!?!?!?!?!? You definitely do have it bad for the jackets!

Because I am a friend and I care, I will take all your size 42/44 jackets off your hands. I WILL HELP YOU THROUGH THIS!!!

Since we're on the subject, I just swam up to the surface ;) to show off my Wested LC/CS, newly re-lined with 'screen reminiscent' black cotton. Sorry, but I'm not a fan of the SA satin acetate, with its time-honored propensity to fray and shred. The contrast beween the rich brown novapelle and the onyx lining is stunning, and the dense fabric makes the jacket feel twice as heavy as it did before. Now it has the heft of a true adventure jacket rather than a costume piece. The world might be a better place if Wested made this lining standard in all of their LC/CS jackets.

The rest of the pics can be seen at Flickr, along with shots of the original brown lining for comparison: http://www.flickr.com/photos/9911326@N0 ... 914667589/

If I wanted to order a Wested TOD, what changes if any do I need to request to make it SA? Did the original have one or two inside pockets?

Nothing except, I think, you need to supply the buckles. At the front want an exorbitant amount to ship them to the UK.

PM me if you need details.

Whipwarrior, exelent jacket....i just got my novapelle lc/cs and i'm happy with it.nice, heavy jacket.it's a little "dusty",but i think with coat of pecard will be better.
Your front panel is longer than the back or its just an illusion?

Re: Most SA TOD and LC Jacket

It's just the way the jacket is laying flat. The front and back panels are the same length. And yes, by all means use Pecards. It takes the initial dusty/dry look out of the novapelle, but gives the leather a deep, rich shine that enhances the natural grain. Eventually the dressing will even out into a medium shine and some of the dryness will appear once again. I think the Pecards also adds more weight to the jacket, adding some density to the leather while also waterproofing it against the elements. Definitely a win-win situation! :D

On a proper LC jacket it should look like that laying flat... The back body is still longer than the front body from base of collar to hem, but due to the pattern shape it will lay flat like that.

I was never crazy about the distressing on the LC, just not realistic at all.

I think its an acquired taste. Initially, it does look fake, but you tend to get used to it after watching the movie a few million times (like we all have!). I can just picture Henry commenting on it during their conversation aboard the zeppelin: "Junior, what in heaven's name happened to your jacket? It looks positively disgraceful! You should throw it away and buy a new one." :D

Years ago I went for the full LC treatment and took sandpaper to my old Wested Raiders without mercy. The result was so/so. For my novapelle LC/CS, I opted for a very subtle CS distressing using fine steel wool, to avoid damaging the leather. I went around the seams and pockets for a very natural, realistic effect, like a jacket that's endured years of constant travel. The predistressed hide really sells it, though. Definitely 'final gear' for me.

The distressing on the LC jacket *****, I mean it's really bad. But in the film it is shot in a way that makes it look okay. I would not want one in real life, but I do like the pattern of the jacket, the pocket design is great. There's a big difference between how something looks on film and how it looks in life.

Yeah, Holt, that's a great jacket....Stunning work on getting Wested to come out with that...

I'd still put Peter high up on the "most SA" version out there, but you do need to put the work in on a custom to get it...People like yourself and Zoltar seem to have hit the mark and it'd be great for Peter to use those patterns to make a more solid "off rack", but I know that what works for one, doesn't always work for another body, so, they're playing safe with their design right now...

That said, since the "Hero" has been so well received, they'd be a seller with a "Hero LC" too..I reckon..

Eric, quality work on that jacket bruv...Lovely distressing work too actually.. :TOH:
