New nylon Tomek bullwhip

I finally received the nylon bullwhip I purchased from Tomek; an 8ft, dark brown bullwhip.

I like how it was constructed. I like how the taper is smooth and even... There's no sign of any bulge usually associated with dropped strands.

Performance-wise it seems great... I just haven't had the chance to really crack it that much. In the 3 days I have had the whip, I probably just got to crack it for less than 10 minutes (accumulated time). It's too hot to "play" outside with it.

In that short time, I already noticed my weakness in cracking longer whips since all I have ever cracked were my short (4-6ft). I'm having problems with the extra length when trying the reverse cattleman crack. I might be too short for an 8ft... Hahaha!

I've already finished another whip, but I didn't have a camera to take the pics. It was 7ft with 10" handle Indy whip.

I love how "movie-like" the whip sounds when it flies through the air. It's both amazing and scary at the same time!

I finally got some more practice with it. Can't get the hang of the length though. This is the longest whip I've cracked and it gets pretty heavy after a few minutes of cracking. I even got a blister on my finger after practicing with it for an hour. Not only that, my arm and shoulder ached after.

I'm having difficulty with the slow and fast figure 8 because I'm not used to the length. Although, some cracks I found difficult with short whips seemed easier on this one (flicks mostly).

Flicks are definitely easier with longer whips, they give you more time to put the right shape in the thong before it's completely

off the ground.

What length did you start out with? Personally the great majority of my early whip cracking came with an 8 footer.

I started out using really short whips. 4' - 6' whips that I had made using ordinary nylon cord (we don't have a local supplier of paracord here, I think). I've been so used to lighter and shorter whips that handling a longer whip is a little hard for me.

Although, I've always had a problem with the fast figure 8... Most of the time the fall get's tangled on my arm. It's only after Daren posted his video that I kinda got it. But it's easier on a shorter whip and I can't quite do it with the 8ft. It came to a point that instead of a fast figure 8; I make it into a forward flick + the back crack of the FF8, just so I don't have to move my arm too much because it gets kinda tiring. Hmmmm... come to think of it, I may have been kinda doing the volley there.

I've already got a todd's leather for "accuracy" so I wanted something a little different. It's chocolate brown with a rust brown 'highlight'.

It may have to wait til I'm back in Australia to actually start learning to crack with it. Apartment isn't big enough here in Japan.

Very nice whip, sargorn!

You may need to change the way the cracker is attached to the fall. My crackers kept flying off using that knot. I tried different techniques to keep the cracker in place, but the crackers still kept flying off. What I did was stitch the end of the fall closed to make a small "eyelet" where I could tie the cracker to without it flying off.

I'm still having problems cracking the whip, though... Still haven't mastered a long whip. Probably because I'm too short?

Thanks for posting some pics of it I really like how it turned out.

Fenris, have you watched Adam Winrich's videos? He uses long whips in few ones, maybe it will help you with that.

Yeah... I use adam's videos all the time to understand how to crack. I'm just really not used to the length. After a few minutes, I feel it getting too heavy and long.

...why was I born short???!!
