It's been awhile for me to be on here again, but I always come back lol So I go this straw http://www.pollockswestern.com/catalog/images/hg3+f.png and this band http://i.tfcdn.com/img2/epV4TzoAY7LxYWd ... A/fyVMtP8A If anyone knows, can I get at least an 80 % SA hat out of this? I've done research and searched on here, but you know how nitpicky we all can be... lol The reason I'm interested is because I got a job at a certain hardware store and am working in the garden and they allow us to wear straw hats.

I once had the sunbody palm hat you show a picture of. It is shapeable with water, but it doesn't accept sharp angles very well. I also found the hat to be uncomfortably heavy on my head. The brim is wider than an Indy hat, too. Keep in mind, though, that working in your environment is more about having a hat to protect you from the sun, so that should be your first priority. I have a Sunbody that I did a few years ago and it is one of my regular field hats when I am out collecting fossils or rock samples. I got it as an unshaped hat and did the shaping myself, just soak it and work in the shape. What you see is about as sharp a crease you can get without cracking the straw.

I'll agree with Bink. I had a sunbody and that thing was heavy!! The closest I have EVER got to the Grant hat was a LL Bean straw hat that I picked up around the same time JP came out. It was a panama style straw with a larger brim. It was awesome. Alas, I wore the thing slam out...

I must pipe in & say I detest the Guatemalan palm hats. Heavy-thick, hot... just- no.

A cheap shantung/toyo would be better IMO. TARGET cheap, I'm sayin'.

Also-Tilly is a great option, & I am a former Tilly H8tr- 'til I got one in a Georgia summer.

Actually, I just saw some good options at Target for under 15 bucks which would work just as well, if not better!

I just had to go with the sunbody. Beautiful hat, I don't find it that heavy.... love it.
