Wild West Indy whip gets a tan

As introduced in a previous thread (http://indygear.com/cow/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=55034" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;), I have a Wild West Indy-style whip in natural tan. After reading in other threads about whip care, I decided to take the creaks out of my whip. I really liked the natural color but the darker colors of the other movie whips (and the different whips in Raiders) were starting to grow on me. Because this is more of an inexpensive belt-hanger than a serious cracking whip, I decided to do some experimenting.



You know how I've fallen in love with Obenauf's? Well, I gave the whip a very light wipedown with Obenauf's and left it in the sun for a little while. The edges of the strands immediately started to darken. At first I thought, "Oh, no, what have I done!?" But after a second light coating, more sun, and some time to let it soak in, it's taken on a rich, golden hue.

I like it. I like it a lot. And no more creaking.

I guess it stopped creaking after it got some dressing?

Looks good , personally I like a natural tan whip best when it's brand new, but they still look great after some use.

I had been giving it a light dressing of Pecard's every few months, but maybe I was being too stingy with it, or not letting it soak in enough.

It seems fine now. Go ahead and wait every 4-6 months now.

When I dress my whips, I let the dressing soak in for 30minutes to an hour, then wipe off the excess. Seems to do the trick.
