Mil-Tec vs MFH German Rucksack Comparison

Post by lantzn »

Today I received my MFH rucksack and thought I'd take some comparison pictures of it and my Mil-Tec bag. Both are German made and of great quality. The Mil-Tec is practically identical to two different 1984 originals I have from a customer at the moment. The MFH on the other hand is made of much better quality materials. The canvas and vinyl are heavier and the leather straps much thicker. The MFH strap hardware is higher quality chrome finish while the Mil-Tec is lighter duty aluminum. The MFH is an towards the khaki/green color while the Mil-Tec is a olive/greener color.

Personally I prefer the MFH due to the much higher build quality all around. I'll be making a monogram label and longer straps for it.

Looking at the design of this backpack just made me realize that a lot of backpacks being sold here are similar in design. The only difference is the material (nylon straps, different colors, etc) but the design itself is just like the rucksack bag. Weird.

Super sweet!! Where might one find one of these online? Did a quick google and they came back in black with all nylon and plastic hardware!

Great comparison! :)

For the clarification. Miltec get their stuff manufactured in Asia (India, Pakistan, China, etc.), and I would be surprised if MHF doesn't do the same. But then again, Apple get their stuff made in China as well.

lantzn, fascinating stuff, I don't know about you but I would have assumed that both bags came from the same source, after all how many of these old fashioned bags would people want! But it seems that no, there are other producers... or at least alternate spec levels.

I have a feeling they chose not to reinforce with the leather washers on the rivets because the canvas and vinyl are both so much heavier then the originals. They certainly didn't cut corners on quality. They also added a "dowel" at the ends of the drawcord which is a nice touch. Most of the little differences are hidden when the bag is closed.

Isn't the bag in the film more towards the khaki side? I thought the MFH was closer to that color. Other than color the Mil-Tec is the way to go towards SA.
