You mean Model 22, right? The Model 17 is a 22 cal.

Thanks for posting the comparison pics Gailen.
I just went to the local gun shop this afternoon and they had a 1917 in great shape for $935. My son looked at me and said that's two pairs of Aldens.
He's learning, what? I don't know, but he's learning.

Hey, it was a working math problem. Practical 'man' stuff he can use in life.
Using 'old math' in the same problem, that would have been equal to two pairs of Aldens, or one TN CS jacket, depending on date of sale and the fluctuacting market.
You can then use the substitution formula in the same result above, and instead of the single TN jacket, make it two G&B Expeditions in goatskin.....with slight adjustment for lambskin.
LOTS to learn......
Yeah, Gailen, are you sure about the Model 17 designation, rather than a 1917? My understanding is a model 17 is a 22 as well.

If not, that is a rare gun. I've never seen a K-frame model 17 in .45, and I used to be an FFL gun dealer.
Regards! Michaelson

Re: My Real Model 17 S&W next to Todds Blank Version
This is crazy. I don't know if I told you guys how I got this 1917 pistol. I was talking to my next door neighbor about going to a gun show on a Saturday to look for a 1917 S&W revolver. Asked him if he wanted to go with me. The next thing he says is, "I have one of those in the house." I offered him $500 for it and he said fine. Really nice example. Lucky me. What are the odds?

Odds?
If it were ME, I'd say the odds were 'slim to none'.
Congratulations!

Cool way to come across it. Does your neighbor know any of the backstory/history of the gun? Has it been in his family, etc. or was is just a purchase he made and was willing to resell?

This thread kind of looses it's value with out the pictures, doesn't it? It could just be me, though. Can anyone else see the pic, because my link looks broken. And I'd love to have a look.
