Todds Raider to TOD fedora help
Ok I wanna try and make my todds raider into a temple of doom style fedora, are there huge differences in size and shape? I looked on indy gear and didn't see measurements, I know the crown is shorter and not straight plus other things but has anyone done a temple bash lately or have a link to a thread? Again sorry if i missed it.

Re: Todds Raider to TOD fedora help
The problem with the ToD hat, as many here will tell you, is that in any given scene you may be looking at a Herbert Johnson, a Stetson, a whatever. There were multiple hats from multiple vendors in that movie, with some being fairly accurate (compared to RotLA) and some being ridiculously, well, crappy looking for lack of a better adjective. (I here draw your attention to the plane crash sequence, particularly when Indy is sitting in the pilot's seat going over the instruments. The fedora in these shots looks like it belongs on a door - to - door vacuum cleaner salesman from the fifties.) The general rule of thumb for the ToD hat is a LC bash (loose pinch) with no turn, but with a slightly wider and less "curvy" brim than the LC, and a slightly shorter crown height with a slightly tapered block as compared to the RotLA. Take a look at my post here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=54765&start=100" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. While I wasn't necessarily going for the ToD look with this hat (the LC is my favorite, or was until CS came out, and the lid is about the best thing to come from CS, by the way) that is exactly what I got, only with the slightly narrower "snap style" brim of a good LC hat. The wonderful thing about this hobby is that what makes it a ToD hat or a LC hat is entirely subjective. The RotLA has to follow certain guidelines to look proper, but the other two, with exception of a very few technical aspects, are completely subjective to opinion. In other words, have fun and play with the hat and bash until YOU look in the mirror and say, "Wow, that looks just like it did in the bridge sequence" or whatever your taste is. Then you can post up a pic or two and ask for the opinion of others, but these are, again, totally subjective. I would search (if you haven't already) for some posts about bashing for a ToD style, although in this hobby the ToD hat seems to be rather esoteric in nature, meaning only a few die-hard Temple fans actually want this bash. The reason for all of this is simple. When they were inventing the character for RotLA, a LOT of thought went in to every aspect of the character, especially the hat, since that is basically the first thing we see on screen. After the success of the first movie, the icon had been created, and therefore the basic idea of the people involved with Temple was "Everyone knows it's Indiana Jones, so we just stick a brown fedora on his head and Harrison will do the rest." That is basically true, and it basically worked. They put a little more thought into it the hat for LC, simply because it had been several years since we had seen the fedora. They finally got it right again for CS, but as I said earlier, little more. I hope this all helps, as my fingers are tired from typing. Cheers, and good luck.
