Picked up a pair of Berkshire Chase English Beaufort Glasses
So I needed to get some new glasses and I decided I'd give some Indy specs a try. These are not the Savile Row Beaufort
Panto but are the Berkshire Chase English Beaufort which look identical and are in the same sizes only about $117 cheaper. They are also gold plated rather than 14k gold filled. Berkshire Chase is the distributer of the Savile Row line as well.
These did not come without the chestnut acetate on the temples, however that is ok with me because they are going to have to bend the temples to go around my chubby face anyway. Its my goal this year to shed a few pounds (with a Wested Indy jacket as my motivation after I do )
They are a bit larger than my old glasses which were more flat and square. This style is no longer the "in" style, but they are comfortable and the cable temples are great, no more glasses sliding down my face. The chestnut coloring on these is great as well. My girlfriend said they made me look a little like Kevin Smith.
Anyway I'll post more pics once I get the frames adjusted.

Take care

Edited the price to the correct difference.

Nice find!!!! Ive worn glasses since 3rd grade and it is hilarious to look back through my old school pictures and see me with Indy-ish frames throughout the years, even when other styles were much more trendy for the times.
I might check on these...

Since you guys are looking for the best prices I found in the US I picked up mine here:
http://www.bestbuyeyeglasses.com/berksh ... 53120.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
They were $159.99 Also just a note even though the picture shows them with the half covered temples they do not come that way. You would want the tortoise color frames (on the Berkshire website they are called Carmel like the Savile Row)
for comparison here are the Savile Row 14 KT Beaufort Panto
http://www.bestbuyeyeglasses.com/savile ... X8UA9O79A5" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The base price for those are $216.99 which comes with the regular skull temples, if you want the cable temples it's an additional $20.00 and if you want the half covered cable temples it's an additional $60.00 So they would essentially end up costing 276.99 which makes them $117 more. When I made my original post I'd forgotten the temples made these even more expensive.

Hey Bish,
What is the weight like? Are they heavy on the nose?

Not particularly, they are actually pretty light glasses. In the picture I posted I had not adjusted the nose pieces at all and didn't have my prescription lenses in them so we will see how they feel when they come back in a few days.Tibor wrote:Hey Bish,

One thing to note is that I was able to bend the temples fairly easily with a little patients so they now fit my head much better.

Re: Picked up a pair of Berkshire Chase English Beaufort Gla
I got my glasses back today with the prescription lenses in them. I have a pretty hefty script so I got the lightest lenses I could. They feel very light on my face and after a bit of adjustment of the temples and nose pads are very comfortable.
I did bend the temples out so that they would fit my chubby face a bit better but you don't notice when they are on.
I also bought some temple covers. First some for the cables that go around my ears. Then I found some reddish brown ones that would fit at the front half of the temples and make the temples look much more like the ones indy was wearing. Both of the temple covers can be found here:
http://optometristattic.com/temple_treatments.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
And the reddish brown covers look like this:
What I did to make them go on easier is I cut off the end so the temple could slide all the way through, and then boiled some water to soften them up a little bit and straighten them out. I trimmed them down so they were the right length and then I just slid them on the temples. They stay on pretty good but you could also put a little glue on them as well but I'm not sure it's really needed. The diameter I got for the reddish brown was the 1.9 mm core. For the cable covers I got the 1.3 mm core.
Just a note to get the reddish brown place your order and then put a message in the note that you want the reddish brown color. He only has certain sizes in reddish brown which is why I didn't get the cable covers in reddish brown.
Anyway here is a picture of the glasses with the prescription lenses and the temple covers.

Re: Picked up a pair of Berkshire Chase English Beaufort Gla
Just wanted to put it out there that both the Savile Row and the Berkshire Chase versions are available with half covered cables, but they do have to be ordered that way.
My last pair of SR "accidentally" came with BC half covered cables. I noticed the difference in thickness right off the bat as it was my second pair in a different color. They replaced them when notified, but they should never have gone out like that.

That makes sense, I figured since I was going to have to bend the temples myself to fit my face so it would be easier with the non covered kind. Also where I ordered them from http://www.bestbuyglasses.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; didn't give me the option for the half covered temples on the Berkshire Chase. They do on the Savile Row.Kittlemeier wrote:Just wanted to put it out there that both the Savile Row and the Berkshire Chase versions are available with half covered cables, but they do have to be ordered that way.

I assume from what you said the temples are interchangeable between the Berkshire Chase and Savile Row glasses? I notice that the thickness on the Berkshire Chase is very thin, but then your also paying quite a bit less.

Yes, they're interchangeable. Here's a link to my thread with comparison pics.
http://indygear.com/cow/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=48363" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Neither of the covers matched the chestnut front. The BC covers were somewhat mottled, but the SR covers are solid brown, and look much like the covers you added to yours. That seems to be the case though with all the pics I've found.
