Anybody know how to get something like sharpie or maybe crayola marker (it's permanent) out of something as porous as distressed cowhide?

Have you tried rubbing alcohol or acetone? That's how I "erase" permanent marker stains out of stuff... Although, never tried it on leather. Pleather, yes... Real leather, no. Worst case would be rubbing off some dye out as well as the marker stain.

Probably not. At least not without erasing some of the dye from the leather. I would NOT recommend anything strong such as acetone. I'm sure rubbing alcohol would remove stuff as well.

I know from glossy photos, you can use dry erase markers, then wipe them off to get rid of sharpie, but thats on a non-porus surface.

Well, I tried a diluted solution of isopropyl alcohol and q-tips....it didn't take the dye out too badly, and it took a lot of the sharpness out of the marker lines...then I went back over the spots with dark brown Pecards...it blended the spots in, and you can hardly see them now.

I might try the process again in the Summer, it right now, I want to wear it, so....I think I'm done for now.

Try WD-40 works wonders on crayon. As far as using it on leather I wouldn't go there.

Try hairspray on a small cloth. Works a treat, but not too much as the die might come out.
