We I have had my Wested for about 4+ years now and have done light distressing before to it, never really going all out until now. Here she is in all her glory.
P.S. You don't have to look if you don't want to Michaelson, don't hate me for doing it but I had to, lol I promise I will never distress anything else, LOL I can see your face now

Very nice indeed! When jumping into the post and just glancing at your text and pics I actually thought that was natural distressing... It does look very convincing. You seem to have done it in all the right places and I love those stripes on the back that looks like they could have come from branches or such. Any specific methods used? Hide? (As in leather used...)
I'm about to order my first Wested myself in ToD goat.
High regards,
Swindiana

Hmmm...that was my guess. But Peter didn't start offering goat till about the end of 2001. This jacket was 4+ years old, so interesting. It might be lamb or newhide (cowhide). My newhide doesn't have that kind of grain.Mr. Das wrote:Is that a goatskin jacket?

Thank you all so much for praising the job I did on this old baby. But don't think I am doing what I did to this to my Expedition any time soon, that baby is going to stay looking new. I have to say that distressing any Indy jacket really brings out the spirit of the whole hobby. I have pictures of the real LC jacket at the Smithsonian, I could not beleive how much they look alike. No I did not use acetone, I did it the more realistic, Deberah Noodleman way, see says she used a steel brush and a swiss army nife, well I started out with the steel brush, very lightly. That really did not work very well. So I got out the sand paper and sand paper holder and went to town. The use of odd object layed underneath the leather and than sanded help to create those great shapes here and there. Out of my two Indy jackets I really wanted this one to have more of the real movie prop look and feel to it so I gave it heck. Here is another pic of my beloved Keppler Raiders fedora:

Hey, that looks pretty good! Sandpaper is also what I used back in 1989 on a bomber jacket I had (I had no idea where to find a real Indy jacket back then). In fact, I used one of those vibrating power sanders and it made the whole thing quick and easy (however, I'm not sure I'd choose that weapon these days). You just have to be careful around stitching with it.
I haven't had the heart to distress my Wested yet though. I think I'll let some natural wear/weathering occur first (oh, who am I kidding, I know I'll rough it up one of these days).
