Wested distressed cow hide leather owners. Weird smell?

Post by hovitos loincloth »

Bit of an odd query this. I've had my Wested hero pre-distressed for about 7 months now. At first the odour was really overpowering and pretty intoxicating (still kinda nice tho') then it diminished to an ok level. Then it seemed to develop a strong almost fatty/sour odour. I've cool washed it to no effect and recently given it a pecards treatment which has ameliorated the smell a bit but it's still there. I'm not a smoker and don't have chronic BO! Has anyone else had this problem with the recent pre-d jackets?

Its normal. TN's and WIngs pre-distressed have the same 'odor', for lack of a better term.

Sometimes hanging it out in the sunshine helps neutralize the smell, but it's there, and just part and parcel of the tanning procedure.

Great, they don't put that in the sales literature. I was sitting wearing it in the cinema thinking " This is really unpleasant. I have stink lines" :(

I got a used Wested lamb skin jacket from a guy one time that smelled like pizza, and it always did.

I'd pay extra for this odor instead of the chemical stink.

If it didn't have it when you received it, I don't believe you'll have any problems with it later, fifthchamber.

What kind of Pizza?

To finish the story. I called the guy and told him the jacket smelled like pizza, come to find out he owned a pizza/sandwich shop and it must of soaked up the order from laying around the shop 10 hours a day. I use the jacket for display and never wear it.

That's a sad story. If you ordered a jacket from the pizza guy he could have at least given you the second one free.

I have one that I have had since 2002 and it never had any odd smell to it. Surprisingly, even after all this time and all the wear put into it -- it still smells like it did when I got it. Not as strong, but still that wonderful leather aroma! W>

Well, if you don't mind substituting a sweet smell over the tanning smell.....

I tried that once on a jacket that came from a smokers house. Didn't work worth a flip.

Well, there are people out there, who are drinking Kopi Luwak... so it doesn't sound that bad.
