Question re: rear flap size on the different jackets...
Good afternoonl,
I have a question that I was hoping someone could answer for me. I know what I am about to say may sound blasphemous to some...But here goes...
While I love the overall look of Indy's jacket in the films...The style, the pockets, etc...I am really not a fan of the "flap" in the back. I don't know if I am using the correct term or not, but I am referring to the slit on either side up to the buckles that creates a flap. So here is the question...
Does the length of this flap stay consistent over all the films? Or is it smaller (shorter) on some?
I currently own one of Todd's most recent jackets...(which is very nice btw)...But the accurate Raiders cut may be what's throwing me off. I'm wondering if I would be happier with one from another film.
Any help is most appreciated.
Jason

The "Last Crusade" and "Crystal Skull" jackets both have noticeably shorter flaps than the "Raiders" or "Temple of Doom" jackets, with Crystal Skull's flap area being the shortest.

They are called action pleats, and the slits were left open at the bottom to allow access to the holster and whip.
There's a reason they were put there.

Awesome...I figured they served some purpose, but they just hit my long torso a little weird.
I appreciate the responses...Looks like a CS style jacket may be in my future.
Thanks,
Jason

Ha ha, I think I know what you mean. If you order the jacket just a bit shorter, it won't stick out so much in the back. And yes, I can attest, the "flap" is much shorter on the CS jacket. Perhaps you can custom order a Wested with the side straps lowered a bit?Pwrsrce wrote:Awesome...I figured they served some purpose, but they just hit my long torso a little weird.

Re: Question re: rear flap size on the different jackets...
The TOD jacket probably had the smallest vents.
The action pleats run all the way down with just a little 2" triangle cut out of the bottom to make the vent slit.

Yeah, I was thinking about a custom fit Wested...
While I love my jacket from Todd, I always feel like I'm flashing part of my back at anyone behind me...hehehe...it is just not something I am used to.

I did not know that. I swore I wouldn't emulate anything but Raiders, but boy, the ToD jacket sure does look great at the end...kwad wrote:The TOD jacket probably had the smallest vents.

Re: Question re: rear flap size on the different jackets...
I threw a couple of stitches in there on both my jackets or I'd look like a duck, that way preventing the flaps from coming open when the jacket is zipped. It may be my body/posture in all, but I like the fit better that way when wearing either jacket (not grabbing for a gun or whip in daily wear all that often).
It can be done quite easily by just following the already made stitch holes without harming the leather, that way no problem restoring it either.

It`s so cool how we are all different. That is one thing that drew me to the jacket...I always remember the part where Indy climbs up to the temple entrance and the jacket was wide open at the hip and I thought, I have never seen a jacket that had that. It made it soooo different from everything else out there while still kinda looking like everything else. And now, I have to have the highest pleats possible! And my old Todd`s Standard had it as well as two of my Westeds. And since I use 'utility belts and pockets of all sorts', it is very practical for me...easy access!
