I´ve gotta Jacket Dillema!.....for PETER

Post by MARQ »

My Wested-jacket (size 46 long, authentic brown lamb) seemed fine to me when I got it few years back, but now it´s been just hanging in the closet, for these reasons:
1.when I sit down, wearing the jacket zipped-up,the chest-area "punches up", in lack of better term, it´s driving me nuts! cause: it has leatherfacings?
2.sleeves are a BIT wide around the elbows and cuffs. I believe it should be more of a straight tube form...?
3.It´s a size "Long"!!! meaning: fit is not like "the original", for ME that is.What should I do? Try to alter it by a local tailor or send it back to Peter,if they´ll take it back for alterations or exchance for a smaller size,44 long,as they originally suggested I should order. After all,it´s been mine since 2003-2004. SUGGESTIONS?
(as a guide 6´1" height,44 chest)

Well, you're not going to be able to alter anything except the sleeves, or exchange it. You're better off selling it and reassessing your options.

Maybe post some photos of you wearing it? It's often hard to get a feel for how it is in a vacuum.

I agree with Yojimbo that pictures would help clarify the things you're talking about. I'm not sure if Wested does alterations unless there's a problem with a custom brought to their attention soon after purchase. Taking it to a tailor might be an option, but it sounds like it's an overall problem with fit, not just a simple matter of taking in the sleeves, etc.

From early impressions, I agree that it might be better to sell this jacket and use that money to purchase one that fits you better. You won't get your money back out of it, but it will serve you better that way than hanging in a closet.

Agreed with all said. If Wested "originally suggested I should order" a smaller size, I don't see much wiggle room in your trying to return it. Sell it off and go with better specs.

Also, know that how the jacket is constructed, there may be some "punching up" inherent to it.

Now that Peter offers the Hero Jacket, how much does it differ from the standard; in weight, fit and such.
Can someone make a comparison from sizes 44 and 46 Wested Standard and Hero..

Unless someone has actually purchased both of those jacket scenarios in an off-the-rack option...you won't get an accurate answer to this...

Well, if you ordered them custom with the same set of basic specs (jacket size, chest size, sleeve length, back length), shouldn't you then be able to compare them? :-k

True, Forrest....but, I thought he was asking for just a general side-by-side comparison....and I was thinking of the unlikelihood of some ordering both of these in even OTR sizing, let alone in custom sizing..

Now, to be fair...if any TWO people have this jacket in OTR sizing, then they could post measurements...

But, it sounded like he wants one side-by-side, attempted apples to apples comparison...

Then again, this week has fried my circuits.....I could be just brain dead...

On the other hand...I see KT is on...maybe he could just swing by The Barn and do it for MARQ... :-k

To clear things up, I made some measuring and it turns out: my 46 Long is according to the chart taken from the Wested Co. website when I planned the order, the standard size, what you get off-the-rack. It matches it in detail, however the sleeves are 27"...I asked for it, for the ride up effect.
I´m starting to lean towards selling the darn thing...does anyone need Wested Jacket for cuys over 6"1-6"3..? :-s ;)

It pays to nag enough... ;) I got a reply to my email about my jacket from Wested ! Gemma told me that they are able to make certain changes, like making it smaller to size 44,removing the darn facings and replacing the zipper to nickel but I forgot to ask about shortening it...This is part of the answer:
"
Thank you for your email, We can resize the chest of the jacket and make it from a 46-44 but we can only take it in around the chest
"
this sounds funny but...Does it mean that the sleeves remain in place and do not touch the panel? Mine are aprox ½ inch away from edges of the backpanel. :-k :-k

Just as a note, they may not be ABLE to shorten it, considering the location of the patch pockets on the already existing jacket. It would leave holes in the leather if they had to raise the pockets. The cost for the extra work would probably not be worth the effort either.

What I forgot to tell is that the cost of this all would be rouhgly the SAME as buing a new jacket ! :( :o  :? :x  #-o So it seems that "Plan to sell a Wested" is optional.
