I'm toying with the idea of buying a David Morgan bullwhip and I'm interested to know what everybody thinks would be the best length to get. If I were to buy one it would either be an 8 or 10 footer. I don't own a 10 foot bullwhip yet and this one would be more of a true Indy whip but the 8 footer is a more practical length. Any thoughts? If you already own a 10 foot Morgan do you wish you had gotten an 8 foot?

Re: Best length for a Morgan?
I have two 10 foot Morgan's and one 8 footer. The 8 footers are soooo much more versatile and looks almost like a 10 footer when hung off the belt. If you do a search, this question has been asked a lot of times. You can see 10's of replies from other people rather than just me. It's fairly consistent advise. In fact, I have done an analysis on the Cairo Whip Scene, and that whip was an 8 footer. It's somewhere here in this forum.Dittmer wrote:I'm toying with the idea of buying a David Morgan bullwhip and I'm interested to know what everybody thinks would be the best length to get. I probably should have done some searching in the forum before posting this ...I'm generally pretty good about that. But I still appreciate the reply, Sergei. Maybe the 8 foot is the way to go. I'm sure I'd get more use out of it and I'm not overly hung up on it being 'screen accurate'.

In my opinion 10’s and 12’s look great on your belt, but leave a lot to be desired when it comes to cracking. They are just too awkward and slow. However, as Sergei said, the 8’s look almost as good hanging are much more versatile. Both a 10 and 8 decline in size along the same %’s, leavening the 10 with just more small diameter end, than the 8.
And then after that you try a 6, wow………,!!!!!! It may look too short on you belt but it makes even the 8 seem slow. However, for the best all around length I like my 8. In my opinion most of the long whip guys don’t use them much or don’t what they are missing by swinging those monsters.
The shorter ones are cheaper too!
Good luck, let us know what you get.

I think height does make a difference. Whether taller or shorter. Definitely go for the 8 over the 10. Even a 6 foot would be good for you. An 8 foot might even be too much for your height depending upon your whipcracking experience. To you, that 8 will seem mighty long and you will be glad you didn't get a 10.Indiana Croft wrote:was wondering, does the height of a person matter? I'm only 5' 3" and I'm starting to save money for a Joe Strain. I was leaning toward an 10' but now I'm leaning to the 8'.
So is height a factor. Thanks
