Most SA Raiders jacket disregarding "Details"?

Post by blueoakleyz »

Okay so I want to make a distinction that's actually difficult to do, but if you toss aside all the things you usually look for in screen accuracy like buckle shape, yoke height, gaps in the back, collar stand position, pocket shape/size etc etc you're kind of left with basically just the material (type of leather) and thickness of that leather... and maybe to som degree the sizing...

What do you think is the most SA in those terms? I ask because some Indy jackets for sale are these huge floaty things made out of cowhide and while not an awful match for Crystal Skull, they just aren't Raiders. then you have something like Todd's jacket which is a raiders jacket but somehow compared to the fit of Harrison's Raider jacket it just doesn't look "it" either...

So in a way, think about it as a casual viewer at home, you probably don't look at the details but you can definitely tell it's a raiders jacket.

Like this
http://indygear.com/images/gear/jacket/ ... tLAclr.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Edit: I did own one of Todd's (a couple of years ago when he came out with a new version) and it just did not work for me but the pics on his website seem pretty good..

I'm pretty sure it's the details and the fit that make it the "Raiders" jacket. If you don't have those then you have a generic brown leather jacket. If that is even what you mean? :-k

I think the biggest issue most often with people and their raiders jacket is the "fit". They get a normal sized jacket that fits them, somewhat snug even...like a jean jacket, short at the waistline, etc. When really they should be getting a jacket one size larger for themselves.

The photo you showed in the link demonstrates that perfect. It's a slightly baggy, loose fitting jacket, thinner leather by most respects.

My suggestion if you are in the market is to get one of the new todds, or even 2, say a med. and a large. He has a great return policy with a small restock fee. So if you like 1 or neither, they are easy to return.

blueoakleyz, your post quite frankly doesn't make much sense to me. If you are in the market for a Raiders jacket, what's going to look most reminiscent of a Raiders jacket to others may not be what looks most reminiscent to you. Therefore, I would recommend just looking through photos in the jacket section or the scrapbook section and find what looks like the jacket you want. For starters, I'd recommend looking through this thread, which has photos of probably every vendor discussed on these boards:

It makes sense to me, but I don't have an answer... unfortunately. It reads to me like blue wants to know who's jacket gets the fit and leather closest to Raiders, without being all nit-picky about all the other details. For him, those are the things that matter. A prolonged photo search isn't likely to get him far before insanity or blindness kick in.

I agree with Luke, I was scratching my head on this as well... :-k

if thats what you ment then why make such a difficult thread post? why not say who makes the best leather jacket in terms of fit?

my friend, I think you will never be happy with a jacket, I have seen your jacket pattern for so long now and it seems to me that your jacket hunt will never be completed. you visit the site, make a thread, dissapear for a while and come back again after a while and start a new thread on what seems to me an itch that will never be scratched.

I think your best of getting a regular A-2 in lets say a 'shrunken lamb' and stop worriyng and just enjoy what your wearing. I think the Indy jacket in terms of fit is about how it hangs on a frame, meaning body shape.
