Both of your hats are awesome!
Between Tundra and Mulceber, I can't decide which looks best!

Tundra's exhibits such a natural SOC/WOS! Awesome Raiders look! And you said the pinch isn't even completely worked in yet!

Mulceber's has quite the style and flair to it! Perfect SOC!

Thanks iwantamorganreelbad1! :TOH: :D I love that I'm finally able to wear the Streets of Cairo hat. It's just the epitome of Indy, imo.

Also I was outside doing some work today and I wore full MoB gear - with the new hat. Thought you all might like to see how it looks in a slightly bigger pic and with full gear.

For such a Raiders hat, it certainly seems to evoke a lot of LC quotes.

"beautiful."

"I would very much like to see you in it."

"Hah! I bet you would."

Wait, what am I thinking, comparing this hat to a full-blown wedding dress? The Garrison Raider is OBVIOUSLY way better than some silly dress. :D -M

"When we're airborne, with Germany (or in this case insanity) behind us, then I'll share that sentiment."

Just proves that the lines from LC apply the most to everyday life!

You know, Mulceber. this pic evokes a view of mine that I haven't stated, but I think it it very true and important. The Cairo scene has a uniqueness to it that was never repeated in the other flicks. It was "casual day" for Indy. All his gear, except the jacket. To me, what gives his hat more "lime light" is because he doesn't have on the jacket. The hat has the whole bit to it. It is dirty, grimmy, has the turn and is worn very relaxed. Your Cairo hat has that look to it in your first post. This post starts to emulate the Well of Souls hat (ignore the scarf ;) ). Combinations of clothing apparel really has a lot to do to the look of a partucular scene. Plus, you are inside, not outside. Put the jacket on with the Cairo hat and you start to look for a truck and a horse.... out side.
Great pic!

You guys all look fantastic in your fedoras. This hat is a real winner. I`ve been so focused on jackets that I never realized I could maybe use another hat.
And I agree...the Cairo hat is such a charactor in and of itself. I`ve tried wearing my 'beater' SoC hat with full gear and it just doesn`t sit right. The jacket goes well with my AB, but the SoC hat really shines when it is showcased on its own. The jacket tends to bring focus to the entire look whereas I feel the SoC look is carried mainly by the dishelved, dusty, sloppy, yet oh so beautiful fedora.

That's a very interesting idea, David, and one I hadn't considered. So if you're right, then most of what separates the SoC from the other Raiders hats is just setting and lack of a jacket. So it seems like there's basically only two types of Raiders hats - the Temple scene and the Streets of Cairo. All the other hats are just variations on the SoC. SoC + jacket + inside = Well of the Souls. SoC + jacket + inside + roaring fire = Raven Bar. SoC + jacket + outside = truck chase. In all these cases, of course, the hat wouldn't be identical to the SoC, but would have some variations. And then the Temple hat is just a completely different animal - which would make sense, given that, iirc, that scene was shot last. By the time they got to shooting the peru sequence, the 2-3 hats Ford had been wearing throughout the desert sequences had probably worn out, so they used a new hat which hadn't been through as much.

Of course, this is just me speculating - people like you, Steve, Marc and John would probably know way more about this sort of thing. -M

SOC + jacket - satchel, then inside and roaring fire. Indy doesn't wear his satchel in the Raven.

Christmas came early! My Garrison Raiders arrived today.

It's heavy and lined, but not hot. It's thick but flexible. It's magic!

Image

Image

Unfortunately my head is not SA; the crown of my head pokes up into the center crease. Oh, well.

Image

Here's what I love most about Raiders gear: I don't have to be precious about it. My kid wants to play with my gear? I just smile. Go ahead and beat it up, Son, that's what it's for.

Image

Thank you, David.

(Coming sometime in 2012, full gear pics.)

Thanks, gents. Now that I have a little more time on my hands, I'll add additional comments.

This is my first custom (semi-custom? non-factory) fedora. I ordered the Garrison rabbit Raiders the same day I ordered a Fed IV Deluxe. I'm glad the Fed arrived first, because even though it was the nicest hat I'd owned to this point, it made me appreciate the quality of the Garrison that much more. The rabbit felt has a wonderful tactile quality to it; it exudes a certain "warmth"; it's sturdy but pliable, and when I think about it, for some reason the word "doughy" comes to mind.

The ribbon has been carefully sewn on, and (this is a big one for me) the sweatband sits up above the brim--that is, it doesn't poke out like on the Fed--and it follows the lines of the brim perfectly. The liner is luxurious. I wore the fedora for about 15 minutes straight today, outside in the sun, and I didn't notice an "oven effect" at all. I yanked the Fed liner out within the first half hour, because after just a few minutes' wear, it was baking my head.

I don't know how David does it; like I said, it must be magic. Do I have any gripes? No. I'm thinking of rebashing it to straighten the pinch, but that's just preference. (It surprised me how far it has to be rotated to get the proper look from the turn. I bought extra ribbon from David, so before I replace the ribbon on the Fed, I'll rebash it for a more pronounced turn.) What's funny is that this is supposed to be the "beater," but I can tell that this one will get the TLC and the Fed will get the abuse.

If you're looking for a first fedora and you have the time (and patience), I heartily recommend a Garrison.

Great looking hat Dale! I've been wearing mine daily since getting it a couple weeks ago. I need to get some photos of it.

I wasn't educated in what the "turn" really was and thought my hat was bashed wrong. David explained everything on the phone to me. The moment he explained it, it all made sense. There are just so many layers to this hobby.

wwtwo and Nightgoat--those are both outstanding hats and yet quite different. wwtwo, that Cairo hat looks great with the dust, nice and worn-in; I especially like the dust around the ribbon. Nightgoat, that's a handsome looking new hat, and you wear it well. The brim on both of those look great--I especially like the look of the front brim and crown of both from the side angles. May you both wear them in good health and on many "adventures"!

I was in Florida over the holidays and saw the Indy stunt show. The stuntman playing Indy definitely dodges boulders better than me...but I think my Garrison wins the hat competition:

You know, why doesn't one of our vendors approach Disney to provide hats for the show? Or is there an exclusive contract with Dorfman? Or would no one notice such a thing except us? Maybe I just answered my own question.

Still, the cost of a few well made Indy hats would be nothing for Disney, and would make their show look better.

Nice pics and a nice hat. I've seen that show plenty of times. In fact, I used to work with the guy that was playing the German mechanic. I think his name is Eric. We worked together at a stunt show at Universal Studios, but that was..mmm... nine years ago. I always had a gripe with the Indy outfits in the show, though. All the details of that show and the Indy outfit always looked soooo generic.
