My early Todds holster.
I rarely post here but I do read alot.
I thought I could show my early Todds holster. I it got back in 2007 was it?
since then it has been given alot of repolishing.
-stripped of the original red orangy color and redyed it dark brown.
-when the stiff orangy sealing was sanded off and the dye had dried up I sat down with it and folded it over and over again. it really broke her in. this took some time. it was stiff like a board!!
-then I sanded it slightly down again with a fine grit sandpaper but still leaving alittle dark left in it.
-reshaped the flap. (for some reason it was off)
-then I redyed it again with a lighter brown dye.
-pecarded it alot and buffed it to a slight shine.
-took out a pocket knife and scuffed it up.
-then I rubbed my hands on it giving her some natural human oil to simulate it being handled alot. it darkend up in the correct places.
and voila!
I wanted it to simulate a real aged holster while still have a screen accurate look.
when new,
and 4 years later...

My early Todds holster.
You did a great job on that holster Holt. It does look like a well used piece of gear. What kind of dye did you use on it?
Re: My early Todds holster.
thank you. it was the look I was going for. that and the streets of cairo look. cano remember the dye, it was just somehting I had laying around. good stuff tho, I have used it on alot of things inclusing the distressed parts on the jackets. gives a redder warmer under belly tone.ShanghaiJack wrote:You did a great job on that holster Holt. you can see it used on my recent distressed jacket in the gear care section.

That's amazing. How did you get it to look so much like Holt's, right down to the grain pattern and marks on the flap?scot2525 wrote:Here is what my holster looks like after a couple years and some artificial distressing.
Re: My early Todds holster.
an update.
I wanted the holster to look extremely beat up. more or less like the film version. or like it has been on alot of adventures. so I went to work, very carefully.
I also had the strap remodeled. The strap originaly on Todds holster is pretty wide and blocky, so I trimmed it down and reshaped it to be more SA. it is now slimmer and pointier. I also rubbed the strap alot with my thumbs, with alittle water and then oiled it alittle. same with the flap. it gives the look of the holster being handled alot during Indys many adventures.
best picture out of the lot. it shows its original color pretty accuratly!.

It does rather look like you've been pulled along behind a truck in the dirt...
Very decent work I think!
I reckon that's what the holster would have looked like by LC time if he'd kept the same gun...Great stuff Holt!
