Deep fryer smell!

Does anyone know how to get that deep fryer smell out of leather? I've tried using Lexol cleaner with no results. I am considering picking up an ozone generator... any other ideas??

First, take the French fries out of the pocket (could not help myself)...

Use a large Rubbermaid container. Place the jacket inside along with coffee & filter packs. Coffee is a great odor neutralizer.

I tried this for 24 hours, then put the jacket outside. Still smells like deep fryer, only now it also has the scent of burnt coffee. I guess it really soaked up whatever was in the fryer.

You might try the same method using baking soda instead of coffee.

So, it is actually FROM a deep fryer? Thats an oil-based particulate smell - yer kinda stuck... Try a leather cleaning specialist.

The smell came after I deep fried with the windows closed for a few hours. It is definitely the same smell that the deep fryer makes.

Obenaufs makes a leather cleaner which is based on their oil product. They say it soaks in and then lifts out the stain. You might try that.

Sounds good, but does it eliminate food odors? That's the problem here....not stains.

Thing is, odor isn't always connected to 'stain removal'. That's not a good assumption.

For example, cigarette smoke. No stains, but the smell REALLY hangs in there.

So, I'd be interested in reading a review of someone trying this product on an item in an attempt to remove an odor. If it does, it would be something EVERYONE has been looking for when it comes to getting unwanted smells out of leather.

Well I have a couple of bottle of the stuff but nothing at the moment to try it only. I don't smoke but maybe I can find a smoker who has something in leather to test it on.
