Deep fryer smell!
Does anyone know how to get that deep fryer smell out of leather? I've tried using Lexol cleaner with no results. I am considering picking up an ozone generator... any other ideas??

The Pilgrims must have had to deal with this every fall....

I tried this for 24 hours, then put the jacket outside. Still smells like deep fryer, only now it also has the scent of burnt coffee. I guess it really soaked up whatever was in the fryer._ wrote:First, take the French fries out of the pocket (could not help myself)...
Use a large Rubbermaid container. Place the jacket inside along with coffee & filter packs. Coffee is a great odor neutralizer.

You might try the same method using baking soda instead of coffee.

Re: Deep fryer smell!
The smell came after I deep fried with the windows closed for a few hours. It is definitely the same smell that the deep fryer makes._ wrote:
So, it is actually FROM a deep fryer? Thats an oil-based particulate smell - yer kinda stuck... Try a leather cleaning specialist.

Deep fryer smell!
Obenaufs makes a leather cleaner which is based on their oil product. They say it soaks in and then lifts out the stain. You might try that.

Re: Deep fryer smell!
Sounds good, but does it eliminate food odors? That's the problem here....not stains.

Re: Deep fryer smell!
Well if it can lift the culprit from the leather then hopefully the smell is taken away as you wipe off the cleaner.
We are committed to natural, healthy solutions for treating leather, and that is why we offer this remarkable product, the only one of its kind in the world. Obenauf's Leather Cleaner, is a blend of pure water and naturally sourced plant ingredients that releases and lifts dirt from leather without harsh chemicals or chlorine bleach. This powerful leather cleaner is also non-toxic, biodegradable, and non-petroleum based to make it a natural, gentle, effective, and safe solution for cleaning leather.
Obenauf's Leather Cleaner
To apply Obenauf's Leather Cleaner you can use either a dry sponge or a soft bristle brush. Spray directly on the leather, then use a circular motion with a soft bristle brush or sponge until the dirt is lifted. Wipe clean with a dry cloth. Repeat for stuborn dirt. Due to leather's epidermal layers some stains will not come out such as ink, urine, wine etc that seeps completely through the leather. Test for color fastness in a discrete area and always treat the clean, dry leather with either Obenauf's LP or Oil to preserve and protect.

Re: Deep fryer smell!
Sounds promising, doesn't it?
Thing is, odor isn't always connected to 'stain removal'. That's not a good assumption.
For example, cigarette smoke. No stains, but the smell REALLY hangs in there.
So, I'd be interested in reading a review of someone trying this product on an item in an attempt to remove an odor. If it does, it would be something EVERYONE has been looking for when it comes to getting unwanted smells out of leather.

Well I have a couple of bottle of the stuff but nothing at the moment to try it only. I don't smoke but maybe I can find a smoker who has something in leather to test it on.Michaelson wrote:Sounds promising, doesn't it?
