Halloween Party Bullwhip Demonstration at my Karate Studio

Post by DarenHenryW »

Here is a video of me doing a bullwhip demo at my Karate studio for an early Halloween party! My karate teacher is the guy dressed in the Gumby outfit!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHIUPsMbLcI

Also, after the whip demo, I got to experience first hand a bit about my field . . .

Who knows, in a thousand even I may be worth something!

Nice! that is one of your 7ft del carpio wilkerson performance raiders i take it?

Also, the kid in the second pic with his arms outstretched looks almost exactly like me and is in a HP costume (i like HP about as much as IJ).

Indeed, it is one of my "Wilkerson Performance Raiders" whips. I find it ideal for this type of situation. It's a good length for wraps and cuts and a bit of fancy cracking, especially in tight spaces like Karate studios with lots of children running around. Notice too the low ceiling, so everything I did was in the horizontal plane, with the exception of the forward flick to wrap the wrist.

By the way, HP is cool! Would love to see a pic of you in your costume! :)

If you've seen Goblet of Fire, the movie, then I have a Viktor Krum first task costume.
However I want to be Indy this Halloween. Sadly I can't be a Raiders Indy since I need an actual hat (i have a dorfman) with a raiders bash, a ROTLA jacket, and a tan whipholder.

Thanks, Hollowpond! And I know what you mean, of course. I'm a high school teacher, so believe me, I understand! :P

And yes, I know my socks are not SA. When dressed as Indy, I usually wear black socks, (which I assume are SA; don't know how much discussion there has been 'round these parts about the socks) but I was more or less out of them that day, and I had forgotten that I was going to have to take off my boots in order to perform on the mat. Oh well, live and learn! ](*,)

I was just funnin' ya! You could wear argyle and it would be fine with me.
I teach high school physics and chemistry and everytime I demo the whip there's that ONE KID I'm eyeballing the whole time...

White belt I'm assuming? What style of Karate?

 I think I'm more inclined right now to want to know more about your martial arts then the whip aspect.

I don't understand . . . Why do you assume that I'm a white belt? :-k

Actually, I am doing Kaju Kembo Karate. Sort of Mixed Martial Arts. The family who owns the studio is called Pallen, they are Fillipino, so there is a Fillipino approach to the style. And I am an advanced orange, actually. (And the belts go: white, yellow, orange, adv. orange, purple, adv. purple, blue, adv. blue, green, adv. green, brown, intermediate brown, adv. brown, student black, black.)

I just assumed it because I never recall it being mentioned elsewhere? I was on your Facebook for a while and don't remember pictures or anything. Usually I notice something like that right away because I do it myself. ;)

And MMA? You go full contact?

And to keep it on topic for COW....how about that whip demonstration? :P
