Hi guys! I'm new to this great forum!!!
I'm about to order my first Western, but I just can't decide. I want it to look as screen accurate as possible and I'll propably go with the Raiders. They used authentic lambskin, didn't they? But what I was wondering is, does the color really look like in the movie if you hold the jacket in front of you or would a dark brown color be more screen accurate?
I also want to distress the jacket, if that makes a difference.
most screen accurate leather/color

The most accurate will be the 'Authentic Raiders lambskin' jacket, and is referred to as such by Wested. The next closest would be their 'Authentic Raiders goatskin'. The lambskin would be the easiest to distress. It is dead on to screen accurate, and is matched to an existing Raiders jacket that Peter found in his stock AT Wested. Regards. Michaelson

Flash, here's the orignal post announcing the new leather. It is in the first post. Michaelson can fill you in on the rest, as he is the one who announced it.Flash Gordon wrote:Peter has an actual Raiders-period jacket laying around? Who knew!
What's the story with that?

Thanks Cliff (sounds like an old news program pass off, doesn't it? ) When Peter was moving his Indy jacket production line from the Ordnance Road location to the new Little Wested House building, he discovered an unfinished Raiders jacket buried under piles of stored leather in a back room, complete with attached tags and all. he didn't even know it was there. He had the jacket spec'd by an Italian leather company to match the leather exactly to weight and color, as the original English hide company had gone out of business YEARS ago. It took several iterations for them to get it right, but it finally got there. The goatskin was next matched color wise by the same firm, and they are both now offered under the 'Authentic' name at Wested. Regards. Michaelson

Thanks for the background. I still LOVE my dark brown lamb Raiders (my favorite piece of my collection), but one day, I'll have an authentic. It makes my dark brown lamb looks black.
Peace,

Maybe not screen-accurate, but I prefer the darker brown leathers such as my dark brown Wested lambstouch. However I am considering a Last Crusade Wested in the authentic brown leather since that is the lightest looking brown jacket in the films to my eyes. The Raiders jacket always looks really dark to me. Just my .02. Regards, Brett
Looking at the authentic lamb, it appears to be a dead-on match to the jacket in Raiders, but not so much to the latter films. No, I believe Wested's original dark brown English lambskin is a perfect likeness for the Temple of Doom / Last Crusade jackets, but that's just my opinion, mind you. I guess it just depends on what look you're going for. Thanks for the info on the leather sourcing, Michaelson, I'd been wondering ever since Wested announced it, exactly what made the new leather 'authentic'. You've satisfactorily answered that question for me at long last. )
