Possible custom "Indy" gloves (1123 type) Interested?

Post by lantzn »

I talked to the owner of our local feed store to see if he had any Wells Lamont 0122 gloves. He said he had another brand so I asked if they had a straight thumb or keystone. After explaining the difference, he told me his were the keystone, but he knew of a glove company nearby who made the kind I spoke of and they had been making the straight thumb type for years. He said they would even make custom gloves to fit my hand!

Needless to say I jumped on that one and asked who they were. It's the Geier Glove company. They are about 15 minutes from where I work in the next town over. I'd like to see if they can make a custom fit glove in the WL 1123 pattern. If they can, I'll let you guys know. Maybe we could pull together and make a batch of them in a few sizes.

What do you think?

Does anyone have a pair of 1123 I can buy or borrow to show them for a pattern? My hand measures 9" according to these instructions so I can wear both a medium or large in these leather type driving gloves.

Update 10/21/11

I just received a pair of Wells Lamont 1123 medium gloves from a fellow COW member. I just emailed the glove company asking if they can duplicate the gloves in all detail minus the mule logo of course. I said we'd be interested in all sizes and if there was an option for custom fitting to an individual. I offered to bring my pair in for examination and measurements.
Hopefully we'll get some good news.

I won't be distressing my rare gloves and it would be great to have a pair of custom fit gloves that look correct and can be beaten into a SA pair of gloves.

If you want to see the quality of their current products maybe there's a retailer in your area.

What kind of prices are you talking? There's nothing I could find on the website you linked to regarding cost of any of their items.

Got my gloves late October and then the lousy weather arrived. I just haven't made the 50 mile trip to the glove company. We just had a snow and ice storm. It is a plan though.

Definitely keep us posted if they are able to make them at a reasonable price.
