I bought a Todd's (Standard, I assume) in L from another RPF member. I was a little optimistic about the size, though. I've shrunk enough recently to now wear L shirts instead of XL, but I'm still too wide across my upper back for the jacket. Anyway, the price was right so I took the plunge. When it arrived, my first thought was, "It's too thin and the leather is too perfect. This has to be pleather." Also, it didn't have a "leather-like" smell. I took it to my local cobbler, who had altered another leather jacket of mine, put it on the counter, and said, "Can you tell me what this is made of?" He ran his fingers over it and said, "Lambskin." (That's what I wanted to hear.) And then he kept looking and rubbing and said, "This is a really nice jacket." He recommended that I condition it with neatsfoot oil so I bought another bottle from him and gave the jacket a thorough soaking that evening. The next morning it was supple and had a nice leathery aroma, and not only did I fall in love with the jacket, I fell in love with neatsfoot oil and over the next couple of days I treated about three cows' worth of leather.

A couple of days later I went back for something else and told him how pleased I was with the neatsfoot oil, and he said again, "That was a really nice jacket." So if it was that memorable to a guy who's worked with leather for 50-something years, I take that as very high praise.

Anyway, as mentioned, the jacket is too small for me so I plan to put it up for sale and buy a larger one from Todd's. (When they're back in stock! In the meantime, I might try the Bantu Wind. [I mean, I would have, if there were any left.] Considering that I paid $400+ for another movie replica jacket, plus another hundred to have it altered/accurized, Todd's jackets are a steal.)

Yesterday I took my 4-year-old son, who is a new IJ convert and responsible for rekindling my love of Raiders, to Disneyland primarily to shop at the Adventureland Outpost. In addition to toys for him, I bought a licensed fedora for myself (the wool "non-crushable")--which, in hindsight, was probably the wrong place to start, but I figure I'll use it as a training aid.

When we got home I put on a passable shirt and khakis, the fedora and the jacket, and showed my son. The look on his face was like he was seeing the movie come to life--just big wide eyes and a huge smile. It was great! (Need I mention that my son is asking for a jacket now, too?)

I don't know if Todd's has the child size Indy jacket on the site yet, but I bought one for my son when I was there. It is awesome, just as nice as the adult version.

If it is not on the site, I would send them an email or call them to ask about it.

That wool fedora is somewhat fixable using 2 "chip clips" and some water. There is a thread about that on here somewhere It will make it look a little more like an Indy fedora. Or you could sell it as is on eBay and put the money towards a better hat. Todd's Downtowner for example costs just a little more than what you paid at Disneyland.

The kid's growing too fast for me to spend a lot of dough on a real leather jacket for him, but I did borrow my mom's sewing machine. Maybe by the time he hits puberty I'll have put something together for him.

Too late for the hat; I already started crushing it and the liner practically fell out. I'll mess with it a while and then probably lose it in the closet until my son is big enough to wear it. I'll say one good thing about it, though: It really makes me want a quality fedora. Thanks for the tips!

When my Todds standard first arrived it stunk like cheap plastic. Then I remember someone (

) saying that lamb skin needs a different type of dressing other than Pecards. So I bought Lexol and applied it and man it softened up the jacket and that rich aroma of leather shinned on through! Still to this day my Todds is one of the stinker* (*that's my way of saying I love leather aroma) leather aroma leather jackets I own! I recently applied another application of Lexol and man it's magic in a bottle IMO.

Hello all!

I've been thinking it's time to "step up" my Indy gear. I've had a cobbled together outfit that I've worn for years at various costume parties and Halloween. Generally it's well-recieved, as most of my friends/ family aren't huge Indy fans. But recently, I thought I'd like to actually get a little more screen-accurate, for my own sanity.

Anyways, I've been looking at the Todd's standard jacket and I think I'm getting ready to pull the trigger. I'm 5' 10" 175lbs, kinda on the lean side [I can wear either a 40R or 42R suit jacket, ideally a "41R" would probably be my perfect fit]. I was originally thinking of getting a M, but after reading through these posts, it seems that these jackets are cut a little snug. So, now I 'm thinking a L would be better...?

Any feedback?

I highly suggest you call and talk to Todds. You'll only get the correct information from them and why not he's a blast to talk with!

Today my wife ran out with my Wested Hero so I just reached in and pulled out whatever I grabbed...and lo and behold it was my Todd`s Standard that I have had for a couple of years. It hardly gets any wear as I am desperately trying to break in all my other jackets and I forget about him. The pocket lining has fallen out completely on its own so I tend to not wear it much as I do use my pockets alot.
Still, after wearing it all day, it was so very nice to remember what a great jacket Todd sells. The leather grain looks great and it totally feels so much like an "Indy" jacket. I was so smitten that I had to put a few shots up and share......

The older runs of Todd's Std. jackets (of two years ago, or so), were the best in my opinion! As close to the Raiders jacket as you may see.

Does the thin, perfect "fashion leather" lambskin get grainier with age/treatment? Because that one looks much better (thicker?) than mine.

My jacket is actually VERY thin. It reminds me alot of the Wings NZLamb cept that it, for some reason, does feel 'less expensive' or cheaper...to the touch. It really does have a plasticicky vibe to it. But this in no way affects the fit or pattern or drape and ,hands down, will always be the best Raiders jacket out there IMO.
I have sprayed it with water but the grain was already peeking thru so I feel that really wearing this thing is the magic touch for leather grain to blossom.

Aside from sleeves creasing and abrasions overall, it really doesn't change much. That said, I'll have to disagree that it's "fashion" leather. This is one of the toughest jackets I've ever had. It really has surprised me just how much this jacket will take; I had my doubts at first, but it has proven itself time and time again. Mine is from Todd's 2008 run.

Yeah, the leather is uninspiring in terms of character, but it holds up, and the details are superb. For 150.00 it's exceeded all my expectations.

I´ve been through the BW jacket thread and this,instead of Large I´m more inclined to buy a Xlarge Todd´s Standard..
The chest and backlength on Large seem too small for my frame...

As you can see, some abrasions and creases, and that's about it. If I gave it a coat of dressing, it would look like new.

I'm glad you guys like it, I certainly do! I did adjust the contrast and brightness on the picture so the wear and tear would show up clearly. It is a nice chocolate brown, a lighter color than what Todd curently offers.

Nice work here, Weston. Curious if this was the same run of jackets as Indiana Venkman's jacket on the 3rd page? For some reason, his just doesn't look like a Std., but more like a custom and I mean well by that remark. With all it has gone through, suprised the straps have not pulled away or anything? Quality is concealed. Would make a nice film jacket.

Gotta say, I was leaning towards the Todd's jacket personally, though my wife favored the Wested Raiders jacket (which was odd, since it costs soooo much more), but now I'm sold after making my way through this thread. I'm looking for both a screen accurate jacket AND one that will hold up for many, many years.

Just fired off an email to Todd to see about sizing since all the sizing posts here are either smaller or larger than my own measurements. I'm about 5' 11", 195lbs and waist/chest are fairly equal in width (unless I've just come from the chinese buffet...), so I'm thinking large, but not 100% sure. At any rate, hoping to order mine within a week or so and will post pics once I get it.

I was keeping an eye on the BW jackets since the price was only $80, but haven't seen them on the site since they did the revamp. And is there any impact that the new run may have, such as sizing changes? Thanks!

That remains to be seen, as I don't even think they know that until the shipment arrives. My guess is though, that after the shipment of BW jackets, Todd probably made it very clear as to what he was looking for in the jacket. Jacket sizes have been moving progressively to common OTR sizes though, as each iteration has bene produced.

reading this this thread again and going over my todd XXL-A. I wonder if these old patterns was really IT. I mean, it just has it all. the leather, the color and the cut.

I wonder if these jackets will go up in value over the years to come.

Ya know Holt, I have almost gotten rid of my in the years that I have had it but just never do as it never seems to lose the true Raiders magic. When I first recieved it, I also had recieved a different Wested I have and the Todd`s went into the closet and I literally forgot about it for several months and then summer came around and I wasn`t into the wet forming thing so I just never took it out. When I finially did, I inspected it and realized that the gaps on the the back panel were off....one side touches the seem while the other side has about half an inch gap. I was upset and was figuring on returning it as it was still practically new but then another new jacket recieved my attention and I forgot about it again. Then, as I was setting it up for a garage sale item and I was describing it, I thought," That really is a cool looking Raiders jacket." and the love affair started from there.

thats is exactly like it is on my new hero wested. maby it is alittle under a half inch gap. .30'' maby...

anyways, it is exactly how it is on the one Ford wears to. I love small details like this.

one thing is for sure, the leather used on these standards are very durable. mine is 5 year old soon and it has been thru alot and it holds up like crazy.

I'd asked for smooth lambskin (like the 2008 jackets), but he said that part of any jacket panel may be smooth and part not so smooth. He really had good things ot say about the leather, though.
