Re: Does this fedora look SA?
The hat looks good
You might want to feather some of the dust on the brim so it doesn't look so concentrated. Other than that you did good!

Re: Does this fedora look SA?
That's actually a Shubert Hats Australian model. It's pretty SA.

Re: Does this fedora look SA?
Actually this is the hat that I am going to purchase
But I will use your advice.
Also, the maker (as I have just found out) said that this hat had 'Closest blockshape in the world to the original Raiders'. Is this accurate?
The hat is also a prototype.

Re: Does this fedora look SA?
Yup, so it is a Shubert hat. He stopped making hats awhile ago. Do a search on Shubert Hats and you should get some info on them.

I did the search, unfortunately the site was taken down so I can't see his other work.
But I think I might remove the dust on his hat, or redo it.

Re: Does this fedora look SA?
how much are you giving for it and where are you getting it from?

"the most SA block shape" is a matter of opinion. 2 things. 1st, I think Steve Delk aka fedora aka Adventurebilt has the most SA raiders hat to date. Now after stating that. every felt reacts different on the same block.
To have the most accurate block you would have to have the most accurate felt ( thats not possible). If I make a Raiders hat in pure beaver I would use one block that was different than the one I using rabbit felt. they react different to the block. so the block must be tweaked. If you used a blend then the block will have to be tweaked.

From the maker himself. His asking price was $200 but I asked him to lower it to $190 and he said yes.Holt wrote:how much are you giving for it and where are you getting it from?

Go with it if it's your size. The price is more than good.

Re: Does this fedora look SA?
It is a size 22 1/4, and I wear a 22.
I will definitely go for it. Literally $8 away from buying this hat.

that's not an insignificant size differential you know....

Keep in mind he is pretty young, so he has a little room to grow into it.

IMHO, in addition to Steve Delk, I think that both you and also Garrison Hatters have very accurate looking Raiders-blocked hats. Just my two cents...
Best wishes,

Re: Does this fedora look SA?
Some comparisons of the hat to the movie's.
http://s1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee4 ... led4-1.png" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://s1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee4 ... led5-1.png" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://s1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee4 ... led3-1.png" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Fixed the pics, I realized that I was comparing a SOC-based hat to the Chachapoyan Temple and corrected it.
Not the best comparisons, just dealing with what I got. Will post pics once the hat arrives.

iwantamorganreelbad1,
The photo comparisons that you are posting are not the same type of hat. You will be getting Kurt's prototype, which is modeled after the SOC hat if I'm not mistaken.

Honestly, I think the crown looks too tall (by about half an inch). Nice hat though. -M

Re: Does this fedora look SA?
Well, I had to stretch the image of the hat to get it to be the same size as the pic of Ford. I'm sure that the hat has pretty close specs if not exactly the same specs. I will measure it when it arrives.

Re: Does this fedora look SA?
iwantamorganreelbad1, to answer the question you asked with the Title of this Thread ("Does this fedora look SA?" )... the answer is YES.
DEFINITELY.
It's got a great look to it that's UNmistakably RAIDERS, not only to the well-trained eye but (on the off chance you plan to have this in time to wear it for Hallowe'en) let me assure you: the general public will, without a doubt, recognize it as an Indiana Jones fedora.
All that said, regarding whether or not it's "the most SA block shape", I'm in complete agreement with these comments:

Do you think I should:
- Take Dust off completely

It's really up to you. If you like the look or want it to more closely resemble the SoC hat, you should leave it as it is. I would

Re: Does this fedora look SA?
Alright then. That's what I'll do, although I will take Tennessee's advice and feather the dust.
This will be so worth it, the only hat that I have is a Dorfman.
Which one is more SA though, the Shubert to Raiders or the Henry to CS?

Both are great hats! You can't go wrong with either! Looks as though you're going to have to save up again for a Henry!iwantamorganreelbad1 wrote:Alright then. That's what I'll do, although I will take Tennessee's advice and feather the dust.

Just as a friendly reminder, this thread has been allowed to continue to this point as it's a discussion of a hat being purchased by a new member....but considering the fact it is a product made by a banned member from this site, and in order NOT to violate the long time posted ruler regarding banned members:
viewtopic.php?f=23&t=13312" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
...it is suggested to keep the discussion bare bones and nothing more, or it will have to be removed as stated in the rule.
FYI.

Welp, he PM'ed me this morning. He is now wanting to just give the hat to his SON, which he didn't mention at ALL when he offered the hat to me. He dodn't say that there were (to quote Toht) other interested parties, ie HIS OWN SON.Michaelson wrote:Just as a friendly reminder, this thread has been allowed to continue to this point as it's a discussion of a hat being purchased by a new member....but considering the fact it is a product made by a banned member from this site, and in order NOT to violate the long time posted ruler regarding banned members:

So I guess the deal's off, and my wool Dorfman will have to suffice...

Re: Does this fedora look SA?
Or you could do what nearly everyone on this thread has suggested several times already perhaps? Garrison Hatters make a rather great Streets Of Cairo hat..And it's cheap too...
Pretty much the same price as the other party who you can't use now.
Rather easy to work out what to do I should think? If you wanted the hat at all that is?

Re: Does this fedora look SA?
Ummmmmm....What ISN'T "Raiders" about the Garrison hat? (And he sells a NON-SoC version which IS clean? So you don't need to get the SoC version..He has TWO different versions you see?)
The Henry is also a great hat, although you may have to style it yourself, or hope that the previous owner styled it to your liking..
Did you miss all the replies above mentioning how good the Garrison looks? Or all the replies over on the Indy-Lounge saying the exact same thing?
I'm befuzzled...Highly.

I'm still confuzzled....
Iwantamorgan, listen....If you want a GOOD, CHEAP, GREAT-LOOKING hat, then buy from Garrison... The SoC AND the normal Raiders are BOTH great hats...As has been said MULTIPLE times in this thread and over on the Lounge too..I read there that the other maker now may be able to give you the hat as he will probably get an "At-At" for his son?
Quite honestly I'd stay away from business with a man like that...It's highly unprofessional to offer, stop the deal, then "possibly" offer again...Garrison makes GREAT hats, and hats EXACTLY like what you're after...At much the SAME price, so....USE GARRISON.
Or don't....
But please try and stop posting the same thing, in multiple rhetorical question-posts, if you're ALREADY decided, asking US won't amount to a hill of beans...
I believe I've said this before to you, but try and calm down, focus and write a post that is open-minded, concise, and more than one line? Please? And if you're ASKING, expect to have DIFFERENT viewpoints to look at..Since that is the whole POINT of asking "which is better"....

If you already had a budget for a Shubert then you can afford a Garrison. The hat you want is only $190 shipped!
