Raiders hat with a slight touch of SOC/WOS.

Post by Holt »

Just sharing one of my hats that has been with me a long time. It is made not to look like one particular hat in the film. just a raiders style hat with a slight SOC/WOS touch.

yes, It's an old Fed 4 deluxe with many mods.

-removed the steel wire.
-soaked the hat and rebashed it.
-took of the standard ribbon and bow and replaced it with darker and more accurate one.
-made a new accurate bow.
-tightend the ribbon up. (you can see that from the side shots under the pinch)
-put in a reverse taper like we see on screen.
-new plain white liner.
-trimmed the brim.
-gave it a turn.
-threw it on the floor.rolled it up to a ball to have her break in after the soak and bash.
-added alittle dust around the ribbon.

what do you think?

Great work, Holt! I can tell you pay attention to the little details. You have the dust line above the ribbon, put waves and warp on the brim, added the turn and roughed up the felt. Really beating up the felt is a major factor on the hat. It helps take out the "dress edge" off the hat. Makes the hat look lived in. You did a good job.

Michealson with a shot gun. :-k This surveyor turns to his field help and says " I don't think this property line goes this way. Lets go the other way!!!!!"

Well, 2500 is a HIGH number to count to. I've got everyone here to take their socks and shoes off and we are still nowhere NEAR having enough to count that high!!!!

You Need to buy a pet millipede... Or import some of that Oak Ridge spring water. That'll help you on the numbers

<< -put in a reverse taper like we see on screen. >>

Is there a specific methodology for doing this? To me, the reverse taper makes the hat what it is more than any other feature. Thanks.

But you can overdo it. Holt has done a great job with the subtle reverse taper (and as an aside; that profile view is great!). I've seen Raiders hats that looked like mushroom caps! I want this

That's one of the reasons I'm really digging Garrisons hats right now. The caricature is gone. :TOH:
