Another atrocious costume
This jacket was clearly designed by someone who had never even seen an Indiana Jones movie. I suppose "what's wrong with this thing" is too broad of a question, so I'll ask "what's right about it?"
It's a shade of brown...
Anyone else got anything?
What's wrong with the guy's chin, btw? It looks like the model didn't have any stubble, so they just repainted half his face in photoshop.

If you squint really hard and back away from the computer screen about 50 feet, then it is kinda reminiscent of an Indy outfit, maybe.

Re: Another atrocious costume
I once lost an Indy lookalike contest at the LC premiere to a man in a white wal-mart straw hat, black 'Member's Only', striped shirt, blue jeans, and tennis shoes.
Surprises me not one bit what passes for an 'Indy' costume to the rest of the world, not anymore.

I guess they only had enough material to make one long knit cuff on that jacket.

Re: Another atrocious costume
Obviously, If someone has a budget of only a hundred bucks for their Halloween costume, they're not gonna get a Wested, AB, Aldens, etc. The thing is, if they spend that same hundred bucks on a used A2 at a thrift store and a cheap wool DP, their costume would be a hundred times better than that garbage, and they might end up with something they'll wear at least some of the other 364 days of the year.

Re: Another atrocious costume
Hey, I wore a wool Pendleton that was a little better quality than a DP for 7 yrs. I enjoyed it very much.
Photographer: It's missing something - we need some bling.
Costumer: How about this gaudy ring?
Photographer: Did Indiana Jones wear a ring like that?
Costumer: I don't know, but he was an anthropologist, wasn't he? Surely he kept lots of treasures for himself.
Photographer: I thought he was a paleontologist. Oh well, that works for me. *click*

Even if it wasn't supposed to be an Indy costume - it doesn't match ITSELF!

In defense of this awful jacket, it looks like the cuff on his right wrist has simply rolled over itself, while the left wrist is pulled tight. This happens on my A2 all the time.Pitfall Harry wrote:I guess they only had enough material to make one long knit cuff on that jacket.

With travesties like this out there, it's no wonder why we get the "Nice cowboy outfit!" comments, even still.
The only way that bag could get worse is if this dude were to use a 'fanny pack' with its strap let out, in its place....Bad, just BAD.
Many years ago, I could have seen that, and gleefully said to myself..."Well, I may only have a Dorfman, but at least I'm not wearing THAT...."

I just had a second look at the site where that pic came from and it is actually suppose to be a costume for in the bedroom...
It made me think what my girlfriend would say if I walked into the bedroom dressed like that...
mmmh, on second thought, bad idea, very very bad idea!!!

The sad part is...the girls costume is more accurate (if only slightly). If I were to encounter one of these costumes in a dark room, THIS is the one I would hope to find.Mark Brody wrote:Hmm, it appears you're right. They have a girl's costume, too

For real. This costumes are terrible, but the models are WORSE. Seriously? You couldn't find a better guy to model this than the guy who is pumping out your septic tank?
Re: Another atrocious costume
No! Simply no! They had to find a moran who gets high on something to stand there in 'that' costume for photos. A few goooooood whif's and he was saying: "Wow...ok photo-dude-type-person...how da I looks?" W>Hollowpond wrote:For real. This costumes are terrible, but the models are WORSE. Seriously? Re: Another atrocious costume
Good Lord. Some of these costumes, I don't even.... I mean, even if you're not really going for screen accuracy and want to throw something together, an Indy costume isn't that difficult to fake. That's half the point, isn't it, is that they're fairly "regular" clothes? Why should anyone have to buy any of these horrendously #### knock-offs? The only part that could be tough to find cheap is the whip; even the jacket, if you poke around at the local Goodwill, you might track something down, and as discussed on the thread I just started, it's not an absolute necessity.
People are crazy.

Re: Another atrocious costume
I really agree with you on that, as those are ridiculous costumes but in one way are we not the crazy ones trying to always be as screen accurate as possible, even if that means big amout of cash on a nice fedora, whip or jacket, then we always want to get something more, its a bit like a drug... I don't know for everyone here but I sure seem to have that virus in me but some people around me would definitely call me, or most of us here all crazyFaustianSlip wrote:

What I do know is that I love this hobby, learned a lot since I started it and the people around here are all great individuals that I am glad to know, wether we're all crazy people or not

Re: Another atrocious costume
The difference to me is that at least in the case of someone who opts to spend however much on a nicer, more screen accurate hat or jacket or whatever, they've made a conscious decision to prioritize screen accuracy, and you're actually getting something for your money (i.e. an actual, hand-crafted hat, jacket, whatever). Those costumes are at least fifty or sixty dollars, and for your money you get a plastic jacket and a manpurse, neither of which are ever likely to be used again. And if you don't care about perfect accuracy, you can very likely find nicer items that are closer to the real thing in your local thrift shop (and will probably be cheaper).j2m wrote:but in one way are we not the crazy ones trying to always be as screen accurate as possible, even if that means big amout of cash on a nice fedora, whip or jacket....
But then, I'm someone whose mom hand-sewed basically every Halloween costume she ever had as a kid and refused on principle to buy any of those plasticky things they sold at Wal-Mart or wherever, so I'll admit I'm a bit of a snob about this stuff. To me, though, making your own thing is part of the fun. Heck, I went as Iron Man (well, woman) last year, and all I did was wear a gray t-shirt and make a circular thing with blue lights to wear under it. Easy, cost less than twenty-five bucks, and it was a huge hit.
Spending money on stuff that's that poorly-made and will likely fall apart after a couple of wearings is just a waste, IMHO.
