Wested Magneto? Anyone?

Post by Gringo »

I have made the choice to order one more Indy jacket in my proper size(??) in the pre-dis leather,Wested LC style....but, this Magneto jacket is calling me. I have not seen the movie, but from the trailer it looks like Wested built it, to me. I already have the Doctor/U-boat jacket in pre-dis, but I love the mods to the MAGNETO coat! It has a "Bogart" trench coat style to the upper portion of the coat.Anyone else thinking about an order? and if so, what leather...I am thinking the new Goatskin! Cheers!

I am in the process right now but before I hit the "submit" button, I just sent off an e-mail asking if they woyld consider making me one in a thinner lambskin hide. Never hurts to ask and its just too darn hot and humid for me to get much use out of a heavy leather. So far I have been very fortunate to have really good experiences with Wested so I am really hoping Mr. Botwright can pull it off. Looks awesome! Probly wont hear anything about it till after the weekend so I'll post more it then...but then are we straying from Indy related?

I love the leather he's making this one with as standard. This is not mine, it the sample you see on his site. I had to roll up the sleeves for my stumpy arms.

Just hit the submit button on my Wested Magneto Russian Attack jacket purchase. As much as I love the leather that is displayed, I was informed that it was quite thick and heavy. So I was quickly sent a sample of "Soft Brown" hide and told that it may be more suited to the thinness that I require. I layed it up against my dark brown lambskin and it looked like a perfect match in terms of color. I really wanted a warmer brown color but in the end, lightweightness is more important to me. So now begins the wait....
:-
...better go check the mail box and make sure my address isnt obscured.
:-
check my e-mail, make sure its working...
:-
ugh, I hate the waiting....how long has it been? :-k :o :D

i must admit that a great looking jacket although more of a winter garment than summer.
Ive just taken a look on the Wested website and peter has certainly expanded his range of film jackets! He has alsorts on there and all at a very good price.

I may be tempted by the war of the worlds leather as i already own and indy and a wolverine.

I wish i could do overtime in my job!

These ones are awesome. The leather harrington is perfect! I wish Wested listed the sizes though, or if it can be a custom option.

Hey _, I thought you and Mr. Botwright had just agreed to diagree and left it at that....well, here's to hoping that he just hasn't gotten around to answering your emails yet..
:H:
I was hoping to see you in one of these and get your thoughts on it as in hand. It will make a nice addition to your already impressive closet. I have never seen any X-Men films but, like you, I am a jacket junkie and this one is a must have for me. Good wishes and hope you get things cleared up enough to don one of these.

Gorak I didn't like the look of this coat at all - boxy; just a modified Dr Who/Das Boot jacket. But I've changed my mind looking at you wearing it. It looks great on you. Perhaps it looks best on a slim person.Your shots make it look pretty cool.

Thank you everyone for your comments and opinions...believe it or not, they matter to some degree...after all, you all are like my Internet family... :lol: :lol:
Okay..let me start by saying that I have never seen an X-men film. Bits and pieces and I understand the culture but I just never got hooked. I love jackets. When this post was started, I was drooling at the look of it. I was in the mood for a Dr. Who/U-boat but this one really stood out with the whole extra collar thing going on. My concerns was the boxy, big heavy coat thing considering I live in South Texas and it is mostly always hot and humid year round. My wife didn`t like it as she said that exact thing..."It`s too boxy!"
So I kept putting this jacket in "My Cart" but could not press submit as this summer has been really hot. So after KT Templar showed me some pics of a jacket he was showcasing, I decided to write Wested and ask if they could make this out of their thinnest Lambskin available. Gemma responded that this jacket could not be made out of Lambskin as the panels were too big. It was made out of a 'hide'. I don`t know much about all that so I still wasn`t sure. They immediately sent me a sample of their "Soft Brown Hide" which Gemma said was not as thick as the Antique Hide they have on the display. The sample arrived very quickly and I was sure it was Dark Lambskin. Very thin and dark.
I ordered it in the "Soft Dark" and Gemma immediately responded that they would use the thinnest and most lightweight available as they knew this was important to me. I was impressed by that attention to detail and away we went.
*****************
It arrived and I am in love!!!!! First off, it is very lightweight. KT had described the one he had in hand as "very substantial" in weight and so I was concerned that, being Pea-Coat style jacket, it would be heavy regardless of what it was made of. It isn`t!! It is about the exact same weight as my Wested Hero in Authentic Lamb. Even with all the cool extra leather pieces on the shoulders it is still very comfy and light. It really does just feel like I`m wearing a sportscoat. If I didn`t think any different, I would swear this was Authentic Lamb.
Satin Lining...
Lots of pockets inside and out...I love the inside pockets. 4 inside (two small/cellphone size, 2 medium/wallet size)
Awesome drape.
I ordered a small as this was what was reccommended when I told Gemma I usually wore a size 38 in Wested jackets. I gave them my preffered sleeve length although they don`t ask for it and I don`t know if they used it or not but they sleeves are perfect.
It is actually very fitted. No Boxiness at all!
I was itching to cold water it but I am not going to as I feel this type of jacket should look sleek and new not tattered and Indyish. I will not baby it though and let it age on its own. The sleeves wrinkle up beautifully on their own. I may have to tweek the collar but just very little.
These pics were taken outdoors for sunlight but, just like my Hero jacket, it really just seems kinda dark and washed out in the sunlight but, in person, this leather is oh so nice. You Authentic Lamb fans know how this leather really cuddles up with you nicely but not on film until it begins to settle in.

http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h304/ ... 120420.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h304/ ... 120311.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h304/ ... 120357.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h304/ ... 115906.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

That`s all I got( to stay within the rules) but if anyone wants a different shot or has any questions, please feel free to ask. I highly reccommend this one as an addition to any jacket junkies out there. My personal expirience with Wested was wonderful and I have never had any problems with them. I keep my orders as simple as possible and short and too the point. They have always been very kind and quick with me and I will definitely reccommend them to any and all who inquire.
WESTED? :clap: :clap: :clap: :clap: :clap: :clap: :clap: :clap: :clap: :clap: :clap: :clap: :clap:
Thank you, I am VERY happy with this new jacket from you! Bravo! :tup: :tup: :tup: :tup: :tup: :tup: :tup:

Thanks Hollowpond. :TOH:

I wanted to add that when my wife saw the photos that KT had sent me, she remarked," That`s too big and boxy" So I told her it wasn`t really his size and she said," Not that just the jacket, That is too much leather for a person to wear. Might as well make it a trenchcoat and look like Blade or that Evil German guy with the burnt hand." Now that she sees it on, she has changed her opinion as like I stated..it feels and fits like a slim sportcoat. :D

Exactly my thoughts. I love the look he gets, but I don't think I'd get the same effect. Slim is not something I get called. :-k

As you've said, Peter is ususally good at getting the cut right. A well tailored black one would suit you, I'd imagine. You may not be slim, but you've got the weight in the appropriate places. ;)

Hi Gorak,
Did Wested say if "soft brown hide" is the same as the "soft seal cowhide" used on the Hero jacket? Aside from the weight, does the soft brown hide feel more stiff than their seal brown lambskin?

They never said other than referring to it as Soft Dark Hide and later telling me that it had to be from hide instead of skin for sizing issues. It is actually very soft and if it I wasn`t told I would swear it was just the Authentic Lambskin used for the Indy Jackets. I have never experienced the Seal Brown Lambskin so I don`t know exactly which leather that is.
