Something new?

Post by rick5150 »

This is by no means a criticism of Wested, but I noticed something that makes me think the pocket on the Wested jacket is still not screen accurate. The same may be true to all other manufacturers, but since I do not have their jackets, I cannot comment on this.

While lightly distressing a goatskin A-2 replica jacket I won on eBay, I stumbled across something I thought the members here may find interesting. I am not that picky myself and love my Wested just the way it is, but I thought I would point something out to everybody who is obsessed with the perfect screen accurate jacket…

I was using acetone to lightly wipe away the shine on the jacket and as I wiped across the pocket flaps, I saw a horizontal line begin to form across the flap. It was very reminiscent of the Last Crusade pocket flap. What caused it?

The distressing tends to pull out details from whatever is beneath the leather. That is why I distress my holster with the gun in it, but is also why you need to be very careful to make sure there is nothing in the pockets – otherwise the outline shows through.

This line is created by the pocket flap resting against the upper rim of the pocket itself. After looking at my Wested lambskin jacket, I realized that the top of the pocket extends too high under the flap to make this mark in the area it is in the screen used jacket. There is only a ¼” gap on my jacket. The LC jacket looks as if this line is about ¾” to 1” from the top of the pocket flap. Since all of my jackets are Raider's style, maybe this is not true with the Wested LC style.

Unfortunately, I am not sure I explained this too well  What does everybody else think?

As far as I know...the pocket on the LC jacket was indeed made larger to accomodate the Grail Diary. I believe this is also true for the current LC versions Wested is offering. If you have a Raiders version, this may account for the descrepancy.

BTW...in the photo posted above...does anyone think that the shirt collar we see sticking up under that jacket is a screen used Indy shirt? I'd be real interested in seeing it if so.

No, the shirt is not a screen used, or even a Noel Howard. On our tour to see the stunt whip in storage, the curator told us that it was a regular ol' 'workman's shirt' from a uniform store.

Yes, I was thinking that the particular pocket placement may be exclusive to the LC jacket, but I was not necessarily referring to the size of the pocket, just that the top of my pockets come up about a half inch higher than that one... Maybe simply lowering the pocket gives enough wiggle room for the diary? Oh well....
