Wested "Pre-Distressed Hide" Jacket.

Post by irishjones »

Hey guys, I recently purchased one of Wested's newer jackets; the "Pre-Distressed Hide" type in the Raiders design. It looks absolutely great and feels the same too. It's a heavy hide in the front and arms, but on the back, the hide is a little thinner. So this has got me wondering. Exactly what hide is it? It's not noted on the site.

If there's anybody else out there that has one and knows the answer to my question, can you please enlighten me?

skins vary inn thickness. the back is probably from the belly part of the cow wich is a softer and thinner grade.

would not worrie about it.

It's cowhide. Their novapelle jackets are 2 choices, either dark or copper. It's dua-tone leather, meaning two-tone cowhide. This pic is of the copper novapelle skin:

I'm sorry, but what exactly is novapelle? And seeing the pics, that is definitely the jacket I have.

..as mentioned, two-tone cowhide. Pre-distressed hide is cowhide as well. I was just stating that there are a few other options in the cowhide skin.

novapella is almost the same as pre distressed cowhide with only less of the ''marble effect'' the pre-d has and the novapella is a more dusty finish.

The worn look seems to have a more 'cracked' surface when you look closely... really closely! Yes, the finish on the novapelle is more 'brushed'.

I've found that when Peter says just 'hide' he's talking about cowhide and 'skin' notmally means lamb (I think goat would be a 'skin' too but I'm a bit hazy on that!).

Great hide. Not SA for Raiders but just screams Indy psychologically!

Doesn't it though? That's a really important observation, to me at least.

Mine was a Pre-Dis too..And does look close to the Novapelle posted above, but there are some differences, and Holt hit them...The Pre-Dis is a lovely marbled skin..Heavy on mine, but I'd guess that depends on the skin Peter used...Really lovely skin for a jacket, and while not especially "Raiders", it IS Indy for me...(It would be perfect for an "LC" I think...It has that worn look already..Or perhaps for a "Kingdom" style too?)

I got the PD hide last december, I use it as my special occasion jacket, I've gotten the most kind remarks with that jacket. I got it in the CS style and its lovely stuff. My only problem I've been having is its still abit to stiff, but that's only because I don't wear it as often as my others.

Its 95 degrees here, I can barely get away with wearing my lambskin, id probably have a heat stroke in cowhide  I guess I have to wait till it cools down to break her in. Its by far my fav jacket so far though, looks great for a LC/CS style. Not so much for a raiders I would think.

Cowhide can be initially a little stiff, but use it for awhile and it really breaks in nicely.

I am about to order a custom LC from Wested. I've owned an old pre 2000 raiders for over a decade/It has the wonderful clown collar affect......but my arms and chest have grown since then. Every time I lift my arm to shake hands, etc the sleee slides up past my wrist, lol!

I bought the new US wings hero jacket when it first came out but I have the same problem with the sleeves sliding way too high for my comfort.

I'm in the market for a great LC look in time for Halloween.

Right now on the site, for the custom order, he's offering a "worn look hide" and a novapelle. Which, according to these posts, both are cow hide.

I'm tempted to get the "worn look hide" and then maybe sand it down a little as I think it'll have a good LC look. Although in this horrible climate of south east Texas......I might have to go with the authentic brown lambskin just to avoid dying on Halloween......

Last I heard wait time for a Wested was about one month?

I was going to order it next week....

(still trying to figure out how the quote thing works...jeez how long have I been here and I still don`t get it!) #-o :D

I have your back on that Texas heat. A few triple digits in the afternoon sometimes but I must say that I have been wearing the Hero Authentic Lamb daily and it was comfy enough. The design allows air to curculate or something but I feel the breeze whooshing all around inside. Only once, when I was cutting the yard did I have to take it off as it was just too long outside. My Dark Brown Lamb feels even thinner and, before I got the Hero, I was wearing that everywhere..even cutting the yard.
I am toying with getting one of Wested new Magneto Russian Attack jackets but it is currently not available in thin lambskin so I may have to pass on it. I asked for samples to see how thin this "Soft Brown" is.....and how brown it really is.

I'd asked Peter the question before, and he responded that the pre-D hide and "worn look" hide are the same.

There is the dry heat and then there is the heat with humidity! =P~ :Dietrich: :Forrestal:
