John- I am willing to bet I brought the only Penman to that spot. In that picture I am standing on the Queen Emma bridge in Curaçao, which is an island off of the Venezuelan coast.

Here are so more pics of my Penman in some of my travels:

Another pic of me (and my Penman) in Curaçao:

Yeah yeah yeah, "head shot", "better lighting" etc. Gotta wait until I can get a decent sunny outside pic for that. But for the time being, let's just say this thing is beautiful and makes a great contrast/variety with the green Raiders hat.

My thanks to Mr. Oak for another great hat. \:D/

You know, all the Temple of Doom hats I've seen by John I absolutely love. This is one is no exception. Very much like the hat worn in the suspension bridge scene which is, after the SoC and CS hats (brown and grey), my favorite hat in the whole series. I'll take that suspension bridge hat over any other Raiders hat (of course, SoC hat excluded). Excellent work there John. And congrats on the new hat.

Yeah, I feel the same way. I hate the way the hat looks throughout most of ToD (tooooooo much taper), but always loved the end/bridge scene hat, and when I saw John's pictures of his version I knew that if I ever got a second hat from him, it'd have to be one of those.

I finaly ordered a ToD from John and I'm very excited. Even more when I see your hat PsychicsAndSwords :P .

I wanted a Young Indy first, but my girlfriend told me the hat will look wrong on me.
And God knows I will never listen to her when buying props, but when it comes to clothes and hats, she sure knows what she's talking about ;) .

This is the best I could do....One of the more obscure characters....In this shot though, the top bash seems to be gone...There's a great shot of his lid as he's walking in off the balcony in Cairo...

No one is sure but most believe that was Indy's seaplane hat with the creases popped out. Either way, its not a problem at all for me to make.

You can still see the center crease in it, though the bash and dents have been pushed out.

I agree with you. It's clear that hat was creased at one point and then the creases was popped out.

If anyone wanted that hat from me. I would suggest ordering a Raiders travel hat open crown. Or you can order it with the creases in it as a Indy raiders travel hat and when you wanted the Nazi hat you just pop the creases out. This way, two hats for the price of one..

I never would've recognised it as the seaplane hat...I know in some of the shots it has a bash in it...eg. When he walks in from the balcony..

Well, I guess you've made a few of those then, John..

Right now I'm still pondering what to ask you for next....Probably not an Indy lid though....Maybe a Penman after seeing Darthinvictus's.. , but then I love Dr Ulloa's Charcoal custom you made....

Cheers for the info..

Daren...Thanks for the awesome photos!!!...It looks spot on!!....You do seem happier in the shots when the hat is returned to the clipper style....Amazing how the hat can be completely transformed just by subtly changing the creasing...

I've been working my Penman LC to try to get the depth of the side dents because I always thought there was something off with the way it looked....I knew it wasn't the block because 1. John had made it, and 2. I've seen so many other Penman LC owners with near perfect looking LC lids.....Really happy with it!!...and John, your LC block is perfect IMO.....

I don't have any pictures to post, but I had an opportunity to see a Penman hat today and thought I'd give my thoughts on it. I was at an Antique show in Portland, as always I'm on the lookout for vintage fedora's and neckties. I saw a guy wearing an awesome looking fedora in a Pecan color. It wasn't an Indy style hat, it was shaped like a typical 40s style fedora. I could tell it was a custom one right away, I complimented him on his hat and asked him what brand it was. He replied "It's a Penman, I just got it yesterday". He let me look at it closely and it was an excellent custom made fedora. So I can now offically recommend a Penman fedora to anyone who is thinking of getting one. Excellent job!

I have a few Penmans (2 Beaver CS brown and grey and a rabbit Raiders), but would like to add a Seaplane to my collection. I was wondering what would make a better Seaplane hat, the pure Rabbit or the Henry? Definitely a darker grey than my CS John made me.

mcmanm, I believe that i mentioned in another thread that we were neighbors, and after seeing some of your hat pics, i realized that I've seen you before. We frequent the same clinic in our professions. My gray Penman will be arriving maybe Monday or Tuesday. If I see you there, I will stop and introduce myself and give you a peek at the new lid. It is of the charcoal beaver felt.

This is a custom-made rabbit Penman in pecan.

And, as per John's request, I'm no longer allowed to post pics of any of my new hats without at least one of my wife wearing it!

So, here you go:

Great looking lid there!!! Just awesome!!.....Looks great on you both!! Plus the rabbit looks really good.. (Is your wife the same hat size?)

Does this hat work with a centre dent or is the crown to high for that or rather better suited?

Daren!

That hat shape really works for you Sir! ;) Great stuff...

I think I'm liking the Teardrop dent more than I've done previously... It seems to lower the crown just a tip, and provide a more solid front line that can really suit the right face (Both yours and your lady's!)...Very cool hat... :)

I'm not sure, but I think mine should be done by John sometime in the next couple of weeks too...It's been a great month for gear...Wade, Todd, and John's deliveries all coming up or come already...Great month..

Anyway, I'll post the pics when it arrives, and I hope it makes me look half as cool as yourself! :TOH:

Warm regards.

Earlier this week, I returned home to find a box from Oregon just inside the door. Opening the cardboard shipping box revealed one of the nicest hat boxes I have seen... and inside that...

Another amazing Crystal Skull.

Image

Image

Image

The hat is flawless. These pics are of the hat straight from the box and on the head. The only thing I have done is tug the brim down a bit. I look forward to showing off some more pictures in the future as it shapes to use and I make it my own. I've never been easy on hats, and this will be no exception.

Thanks again for the great work John! I'll be calling soon for another.
